COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The fifth beer in the Unchained Series will be from brewer Nate Siats and is an Imperial Pumpkin Porter. Nate is a big fan of pumpkins and wants to do this up right, starting with where the pumpkins come from. The small, local, organic farm that is providing the pumpkins just so happens to be owned by Charles Jones, one of the strong fellas who work on our keg line! Nate’s desired flavor profile in his own words- A dark, chocolaty, full bodied beer with a slight bitter after taste. Evenly spiced with a hint of pumpkin, you would think you were sitting down for thanksgiving dessert. Perfect for a cool, fall afternoon.

SLight spices on the nose, I get cinnamon, pepper, a touch of clove. Underneath the spice is a fair amount of roasted dark malts and light chocolatey notes as well. Pours dark brown, more or less black. Short lived head and lace. The flavor is roasty and a little charred, light chocolate sweetness and moderate spice in the form of cinnamon, clove, and pepper. Dry patent malt aftertaste lingers, dry mouthfeel.

M&Jsamplefest: Unusual spices in the aroma, yet typically porter. I could not detect any pumpkin in this. Overall, a decent but fairly average porter.

Bottle shared by CaptainCougar. Pours clear dark brown with an average, frothy tan head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (bread, cookie, caramel, chocolate, toasted), light hops (woody), and average esters (fruity) with notes of brown sugar, nutmeg, ginger, cinnamon, and pumpkin. Flavor is heavy malt (bread, cookie, caramel, chocolate, toasted), light hops (woody), and average esters (fruity) with notes of raisin, brown sugar, nutmeg, ginger, cinnamon, and pumpkin. Medium body, warmth, and carbonation, low creaminess with a dry finish.

12oz bottle, thanks CaptainCougar. Small tan head atop black body with brown edge. Aroma is moderately sweet, pumpkin/allspice/cinnamon, some ginger. Taste is moderately sweet, bittersweet chocolate, some allspice. Light-medium body.

Bottle courtesy of CaptainCougar, thanks! Dark brown, beige edge head. Aroma of chocolate and coffee, pumpkin, and the usual pumpkin spices. Taste is coffee grounds and gourd. Decent.

This 12 oz bottle was courtesy of Strykzone, and poured black with a robust tan head and thick lacing rings. Nose of roasted malt and hint of the pumpkin. Very bold body and a creamy mouthfeel. The flavor is rich for a porter with lots of chocolate, coffee and again the light pumpkin. The finish is bitter and there is a touch of the alcohol. Very good.

Bottle:   Nearly black, moderate frothy dark beige head, a few clumps of lacing.   Strong roasted malt nose, subtle dark chocolate and nutmeg.   Fairly roasty on the tongue, a little bit of lactose, soft hop, a dash of nutmeg and allspice.   Not as spicy as I thought it was going to be.   This one is much more of a Porter than a Pumpkin Ale, which is okay.   Guess I was expecting something more along the lines of Midnight Suns version.   Porter fist, pumpkin second.   Moderate sweetness, lingering roastiness.   Its growing on me.   As it warms the spices come out a bit more.   Thanks Bob!

Bottle: Very dark brown pour with an ample tan head. Aroma is lightly spiced with nutmeg and cinnamon and a heavy roasted malt backer. Tastes of well-roasted malts, a light chocolate sweetness, faint bitters, and the complimentary pupmkin pie spices. Nutmeg, nothing else really stands out. Smooth and creamy. The roasty presence blends very well with the bittersweet and spicey elements. Solid offering.

Draft. Pours deep brown with a slight reddish hue and a small creamy tan head. Aroma of rich sweet milk chocolate notes, with plen of roasty malts and a lightly burnt character, not much by way of pumpkin. Flavor starts with some sweet cocoa and dark roasty malts. Picks up some hints of spice with just a touch of pumpkin sweetness. Finishes sweet with a light burnt toast bitterness. Medium to medium full creamy body and a softer carbonation. Pretty good stuff

Draft served in a Maudite glass at Global Brew Tap House in Edwardsville. Pours a deep, opaque brown color with a very thick, rocky, foamy dark tan head. Aroma of nutmeg, pumpkin, roasted malts, dark chocolate, nuts, and a bit of cinnamon. Flavor of pumpkin, nutmeg, cinnamon, dark chocolate, dry roasted malts, vegetal and earthy notes, and dust. Medium-bodied, with a roasty mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Somewhat sweet, too. Not bad at all.
