3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 drpimento (1936) - La Crosse, Wisconsin, USA - OCT 23, 2011
I let this warm out of the fridge. Poured with a nice, medium sized, off white head that soon settled to a light cover and some lace. Color is a very slightly hazy amber with lots of small bubble trails. Aroma is fruit, hop, malt. Flavor is similar to nose but with hops coming out much more along with pronounced bittersweetness and balanced by good carbonic tang. Body and carbonation are good. Finish is like flavor and longer than average. Would’ve scored this higher as an American Pale Ale.

12oz. Bottle: Faint aroma of malt, bread, grain, and a hint of hops. Poured amber in color with a small, white head that greatly diminished but lasted throughout as a film on top of the beer. Cloudy. Lightly sparkling. Many small particles throughout. Flavor is lightly sweet and slightly bitter. Tastes of malt, hops, grass, bread, and light fruit. Medium body. Lightly dry texture. Average carbonation. Lightly sweet, lightly bitter, malt, hop, grain, grass finish is lightly dry.

12oz bottle from Pick’s poured into an English Pint. Pours a hazy gold with a little bit of white head. Aroma of hoppy citrus fruits and honey. Taste is very lightly sweet on the start and medium bitter on this finish. Slight aftertaste of honey. Medium bodied with a thick and creamy texture. Lively carbonation and a long bitter finish. Overall, a pretty damn good beer. Definitely worth seeking out for the try.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Johnsense (454) - - SEP 9, 2011
UPDATED: SEP 10, 2011 A good tavern ale. Hazy gold pour with a 2 finger head. Smells more like a pilsner - bready with some lemon, grass, and a faint nose of hops. More hop bite in the taste - biter with good malt backbone, grassy with some herbal notes. lighter mouthfeel and very smooth. A quality session ale.

Serving glass: Poured from bottle into Nonic Imperial Pint.
Appearance: Just barely hazy gold with thin white cap and minor lacing.
Aroma: Very bready with some citrusy and spicy hops.
Taste: Bread and apple malt backbone that actually reminds me of an English/German hybrid. Nice hop profile that combines the traditional spicy, floral English hop taste with a little more citrus and bitterness.
Palate: Moderate carbonation, medium creamy body with a crisp, dry finish.
Overall: Great example of how to take a somewhat stale style (English Pale Ale) and rejuvenate through both a historical and a modern lens. Well done, Damien!
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Strykzone (3814) - Wood River, Illinois, USA - AUG 30, 2011
A slightly dark golden pour with some funky looking yeast floating as in a sci-fi nebula. A white head that is one finger and doesn’t last long. The first taste is sour with bitter hops following. The first question is "this is a Pale Ale?" Some fruit is tasted along with those hops that seem to be West coast varieties, and light caramel. This lights up the tip of the tongue. Is it a Pale Ale, an IPA, or a bitter? Whatever it is this beer is just ok and nothing more.

Grab this on a whim and was surprised on how much I enjoyed it. Nice gold pour with a small white head. Clean smell of hops, malt, and citrus. Refreshing beer, would definitely buy again.

Bottle: The aroma consists of light pear, orange, and some herbal hops. It pours a mostly transparent orangish-gold with a touch of haze, a two finger soapy head with decent retetention, and lots of webbing for lacing. The flavor starts with pear and a hint of peach. The finish has moderate grapefruit, herbal notes, and a touch of grass. Light-medium bodied with mild carbonation and a somewhat soft mouthfeel. Overall, I’m generally not a huge ESB fan, but this hopped up version is pretty good.

Gold pour with big white head. West coast hop aroma. Taste is very hoppy but has a good malt backbone. The hops are citrusy/piney and floral. Malt is fruity - green apple, peach & grapefruit. Medium body. This style isn’t exactly my cup of tea but I like this...very respectable.

First initial taste and i liked it alot.Glad im stuck with a six pack.Great bitterness that goes well with the malt and yeast. There is kind of an appleyness to this- crisp and smooth kind of like a lager.Good mouthfeel really refreshing and tastey with a good solid bitterness that fades softly and lingers.
Aroma is some herbal earthy some fruit with a pleasant yeast presence.
Now im going to have to try the other unchained. This is a good beer to have around.
