3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 WisconsinBeer (686) - St. Paul, Minnesota, USA - SEP 16, 2011
Bottle. Accidentally cracked this one open from the back of the fridge thinking it was an Oktoberfest. Fuggit. Was saving it to rate it anyway. Pours a bright yellowish orange color, slightly hazy. Lively carbonation and a foamy head that quickly dissipates. Initially comes across as very light on the palate but is quickly overcome by vigorous fruitiness. Pears, tart apples, a hint of honey. Finish is dry with a bit of pepper and a clean hop hit. Not too bad.

Draft at Sweeney’s, St. Paul. Light brown color and a tall, thick white head. Big aromasa of clove and yeast. Flavor is herbal with more yeast, prairie grass, cloves, and light spice. Medium sweet. Good.

Cloudy pale amber body with a thick lasting white head. Decent aroma of honey and spice (pepper?). Very bright palate loaded with carbonation. The flavor is similar to the aroma but a little better. Sweet and smooth up front with some honey flavor. It finishes with a nice peppery bite. A decent beer.

Pours a hazy golden color with a small tight white head that leaves good lace on the glass. The aroma is floral and lightly lemony with some earthy and mineral notes. The brilliance of the aroma fades a bit as the beer warms.
The flavor is doughy and very spicy with lots of mineral character. The beer is bitter and lightly astringent. There are some earthy hoppy notes throughout & the beer is lightly lemony and moderately dry.
Much like the aroma the more brilliant flavors in this beer become muted as it warms making it taste a little dull and watery before I’ve finished the bottle, It’s a weird reaction to temperature change, and not something I’m used to at all with Saison. Although the harsh bitterness fades as well as it warms so that’s a positive.
It’s a good beer.

Pours a clear lemon yellow with frothy white head. Aroma is very earthy. A mix of hay, grassy sugar. A lot of undertones of bread. Flavor is rather tart. Not a lot honey other than a minor undertone of sweetness that offsets the lemon and hoppy spruce. Body is light with a lot of carbonation.

WARNING: This bottle literally exploded when I opened the first one, as in half the neck came off with the cap. 12oz bottle from Pick’s poured into a shaker. Pours a very cloudy dark gold with about 2 fingers of thick white head. Aroma of honey and a little peppery spice and some Muscat grapes. Taste is light bitter and very light sour. Sour green grapes with some pepper and a good bit of honey. Medium bodied with a somewhat light texture. Lively carbonation and an oddly sour finish. Overall, not bad. Probably not something I would drink again but I’ll finish the 6-pack eventually.

Pours a clear golden with a medium white head. Aroma is hoppy and earthy with hints of grain and citrus. Flavor is bitter hops, earthy, mineral notes, grain, citrus, fruit, honey, and some spices. Medium-light body with medium carbonation. Decent but nothing special.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 islay (740) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - AUG 20, 2011
12 oz. bottle. Strong, dry yet floral and fruity aroma features honey and melon scents. Pours a hazy, effervescent gold with a large amount of creamy, uneven, cream-colored head. Produces good, thick lacing. My score of 4 for appearance is due to the surprisingly impressive head and lacing. Dry, sharp, lightly sour flavor features an apricot element. The flavor is weaker than it should be, but the dry finish and aftertaste are strong and good. Light to medium body. Soft in the plate. Honeymoon saison is pleasant but too simple to be outstanding.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 glennmastrange (1884) - hobe sound, Florida, USA - AUG 16, 2012
Bottle. Moderate malt aroma of grain, lemon for the hops, light to moderate bearnyard and musty for the yeast with un-ripe peach and honey in the background. Head is large, fizzy, white with fair lacing and is mostly lasting. Color is hazy, medium amber. Flavor starts heavily acidic, and sour, then finishes moderately acidic and bitter. Palate is light to medium, dry, with a fizy carbonation. This is a very refreshing and sprtely Saison with a nice crisp finish.
