COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Medium bodied ale with a pronounced citrus/passion fruit/mango aroma, slight astringent/burnt character from the black malt. Think black colored hoppy ale.

Either un-retired or a vintage keg. It is good htough. Nice bitterness, flavors mesh well.

Pours a deep brown/black color with a tall, bubbly, tan head. Aroma of hefty roasted malts hits the nose first with some mild sweet citrus later in the nose. Flavor starts off with an astringent roasted kick, fading into a light grapefruit and malty finish. Body is modest density with low carbonation lending to a smooth feeling. Overall a good offering. Would love to try it fresh on tap as I think the hoppy presence would come through a lot more prevalent.

The aroma is very chocolaty with mixed grains, coffee, and strong hops. The appearance is dark brown with a foamy head. The taste is like the aroma with a bitter bite. The palate is thin. Overall a nicely made black ipa but just to bitter for me.

Doghair (125) - Illinois, USA - JUL 18, 2012
Poured into a pint glass. Nice foam that slowly settles to a nice 1/4 inch that lasts throughout. Dark brown molasses color. The smell is different than I expected. The hop aroma is sort of fruity citrus and pine. Slight malt too. The taste is dark wheat and malt with the unique hop coming through. Come chocolate and mild bitterness. Nice but the unique hop gives it a different taste. Sort of unexpected. Generally a good beer. Being a black ale with unique hops make it difficult to compare. I liked it will probably get more.

Aroma is piney hops, a hint of dark malts and a bready character. The flavor is tropical fruit/citrus, a hint of chocolate and a mildly tart finish. Decent enough.

Very dark brown with a medium tan had and foamy lacing. Aroma of dark roasted malts, peaty notes, caramel, mild citrus and light chocolate. Taste of roasted malts, nuts, toffee, mild citrus with a mild bitter finish that has some off-flavors in it.

Bottle. Mango/orange/caramel malt and grapefruit peel/pine aroma. Dark chestnut color with large tan head. Sweet caramel/chocolate, light malt and moderately bitter orange peel hops flavor. Decent body. Not bad - would have liked if the malt was more forward.

12oz bottle poured into a shaker. Pours very dark with about 2 fingers of light brown head. Aroma of citrus and some roasty malt. Taste is medium bitter. Citrus and burnt malt. Medium bodied with a slick texture. Lively carbonation and a long finish. Overall, pretty good. I’d gladly drink this again.
