COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Presenting Batch 12 in the Summit Unchained Series – 100% Organic Ale. It’s Minnesota’s first USDA-certified 100% organic beer. It’s also the first Unchained batch from new brewer Gabe Smoley. Gabe went all out to make this session IPA as enjoyable as it is sustainable. He even developed his own organic yeast strain (talk about a beer geek). 100% Organic Ale offers up pronounced rose, potpourri and floral hop character with a light malt backbone – making it the perfect beer for Spring. So enjoy this limited-release beer while you can.

Pours a dark golden with a fluffy white head and some lacing. Aroma is floral notes and citrus hops. Flavor is a lot of floral hops with citrus and pine with caramel malt. Medium body with medium carbonation. Pretty good though not very unique.

Pours a golden-copper with smallish, quickly dissipating head. Floral, citrusy hop aroma. Flavor is a very smooth, balanced combination of citrus hop with sweet malt. Just a slight touch of bitterness to the finish. This is a really good IPA.

Pour from a bottle. First, I have to get this off my chest: WHAT THE HECK IS AN "ORGANIC YEAST STRAIN"?!?!?! I challange you to show me an "inorganic yeast strain", and if you do, 1. It’s not yeast. 2. Can I be co-author on your paper? What an absolute load of malarky. Pour is a fairly dark copper, with a nice head that leaves some great lacing. Aroma is peppery spice, followed by some nice pine resin, backed by light caramel malt. Taste is really solid. Flowery hops, pine pitch, more pepper. The floral notes really come through in the taste more-so than in the aroma. Not terribly bitter, but there is a nice hop finish that lasts. One of the better ones from this series in my mind. Not overly complex or anything, but as advertised, a really nice session beer.

Bottle: Copper pour with a thin but tight creamy off white head. aroma is nice caramel malt, herbal/piney hop. Flavour brings more hop to the forefront, nice citrus and spruce/pine hop. Nice malt backbone. Hint of peppery spice in the finish. Nicely developed flavour from an under 5% brew.

Minnesota Winterfest 2013. Gold color with a medium head. Oranges! Massive orange and citrus aroma, like smushing my face in a bag of Cascade hops. Light pine lingering there too. Pine and black pepper flavor. Light caramel malts and citrus.
