COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
For Unchained 14, Summit brewer Jeff Williamson brings you Bière de Garde – a classic French farmhouse style ale that is rarely seen fresh locally. Using the best French and Belgian malts, Jeff’s brew entices you with a malt aroma of toffee, cherry and other goodies. The malt theme carries through to the taste, offering up more toffee, cherry, figs, caramel, and a hint of biscuit. A subtle hop spiciness plays amongst the flavors and it finishes crisp and dry. This hearty ale pairs well with bon fires, roasted meats and good friends.

From bottle. Pours a dark brown hue with thin tan head and decent lacing. Aroma of bready yeast, toffee, caramel. Taste of malt, biscuit, toffee, caramel, dark fruits. Medium body with light carbonation. Pretty good for this style. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 oz. bottle. Pours a medium, we’ll retained, tiny bubbled light beige head, with some lacing, over a clear brown (SRM 25) body......nose is sweet malts, with hints of cherry, fig, hints of roasted malts with light cocoa, minimal hops....taste is moderately sweet malts, with dried fruits, toffee/caramel, cereal, finishing dry and moderately bitter......mouth feel medium body, minimal astringency, mild acid. This misses the style ever so slightly. The malts, while mostly dominant, are not quite deep enough in complexity. Also the hops are a bit too forward. An increase in the malt bill, and a change or a lowering of the hops used would improve what is already a nice beer. BJCP 7/3/14/4/6

Dark color. Some white head. Can’t distinguish an aroma. Caramel malt maybe, pine and grass. Pretty solid flavor. Light body. Shory duration. Clean. Very clean. Would be a sessionable beer except it’s 7%!! which is not expected. Sweet

On tap. Served a dark brown color with a nice thick tan head and some lacing. Aroma of malt, primarily dark fruit and bit of spice. taste of thick malt, dark fruit with some toffee and just a bit of spice. Mild bitterness and a dry finish. A solid body, a bit crisp and very smooth. Nicely balanced. Enjoyable beer to relax with.

Bottle. The look is darker than expected, very dark brown with reddish tinges, and a thinner off white head. The smell is fruits, malts, slight yeast, cherry, sweetness, pie, and ok. The taste is roasty, paper, fruits, malts, porterish, dry, and ok.

Very complex with a clean finish. Caramel notes with a hint of smoke. Not as hop-heavy as many Summit beers - just right.

I get some nuts, roasty malt, and maybe some molasses. Tastes like a brown ale. I like brown ales.
