Commercial Description:
This unique seasonal beer offers the warmth of an old English pub to help ward off the chill of a winter’s night. It has its origins in British neighborhood pubs where villagers would gather to shake off the damp cold of the bitter English winter. They’d share a pint or two of winter warmer ale by the fire, catch up on local gossip, and stay inside, where it was warm. We’ve brewed our version in the tradition of those winter ales, with a robust, full-bodied flavor and a tangy hint of spices.

Bottle. Pours a bold cherrywood color with dissipating beige head. It has a strong caramel and malt aroma along with some dark fruit and burnt wood. The flavor is very roasty and has almost a charcoal quality, but is kept within reason. The finish has a bit of a twang to it as some spicy hops kick in. As I get farther down the glass, it gets a little bit of chocolatey sweetness and the aftertaste gets piney. A decent brew.

Deep amber with an off white head. Aroma is roasted malt with an odd note (spice?). Roasted caramel flavor. A bit sweet. Nice hop finish.

Pours a dark amber. Aromas of malts/toffee/spice. Flavors of malts, caramel, spice, and a lightly bitter finish.

Fruity aroma of apple and pear. Mild malt sweetness with an undertone of almost turned milk. Lactic apple cider from a distance. Dark reddish brown clear with thin off-white or light cocoa lacing head. Medium bodied with medium-high carbonation. Starts with some muted sweetness. Coffee and chocolate notes, a bit of caramel and licorice. As taste grows, starts to become a bit too sweet. Sugar and sticky anise, rootbeer. Mild to medium hops finish. Floral but not overly bitter. Mild smoky coffee finish and sweetish after. Very little spice but a bit of cocoa.

On tap at Lazy Chameleon in Powell, OH. Clear dark reddish brown with a thin beige head and decent lacing. Nutmeg and malt aroma. Medium-bodied with sweet malt and caramel flavors, and some spices as well. Pretty tasty but the flavor is very short-lived. The finish is roasted malt with a bitter follow-through. Above average, however nothing really makes this beer stand out in the sea of similar winter ales.

Dark brown color, spicy with nutmeg and cinnamon (?), some chocolate in the finish. On the thin side.

Has a dark mahoganey color, nice light tan head with good lace. Malty, bittersweet all the way through. Dark ripe fruit, roasty, some alcohol. This year’s had no dryness that some previous year’s versions had which I preferred over this. Good carbonation. Had it on draft at the Bodega downtown La Crosse.
