Commercial Description:
This unique seasonal beer offers the warmth of an old English pub to help ward off the chill of a winter’s night. It has its origins in British neighborhood pubs where villagers would gather to shake off the damp cold of the bitter English winter. They’d share a pint or two of winter warmer ale by the fire, catch up on local gossip, and stay inside, where it was warm. We’ve brewed our version in the tradition of those winter ales, with a robust, full-bodied flavor and a tangy hint of spices.

Pours a clear dark brown color with a small amount of wispy white lacy head. Aroma is a bit of brown sugar and nothing else. Flavor is very sweet and brown sugary once again, with bits of caramel. Overall, pretty watery and weak, but decent enough for a session winter brew.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown with a small rocky head that diminished slowly. Good malty brown sugar aroma. Medium body with a thin texture. Moderate roasted malt flavor with a good bitter finish. Good drinkable brew.

Pours a dark brown fairly translucent still a decent tan head w/ some nice lacing. Some nice malt aroma light brown sugar and some key wheat notes and a light spice w/ some tiny bitter hints. Pal is fairly well carbonated and pretty well coated. Flavor is reminscent of a fuller nut brown ale. A good roasty malt aroma and a nice light bitter finish some light walnut flavor hint of brown sugar. Could be bigger to be great but pretty good.

Draught at Isabella’s in Dubuque, IA. Clear dark dark brown. Smells mostly of brown sugar and alcohol. These come out again in the flavor along with black licorice. Moderately carbonated. Oily mouth fell.

(draft) had a decent flavor, but there wasn’t much flavor to it. I kept getting hints of spices and such, but the hints faded as soon as I started to detect them. Good, but not great.

Sampled at a 2005 Christmas and Winter beer tasting at Delilah’s, Chicago, IL. 2003 vintage. Clear amber hued ale having a small diminishing head. No discernable carbonation. Sweet malt and toffee aroma. Medium bodied that starts with a spicy, chocolately, light toasty candy malt flavor, similar to chocolate-coated malt balls. Finishes dry with light malt aftertaste. This is a good drinkable beer, just like drinking liquid candy.

A bit thin and watered down on the tongue. Has notes of chocolate, roasted caramel sweetness, and toffee, but also thin and disappointing.

Brown, clear with a reddish tint. Hints of coffee, carmel, cherry, prune and licorice. OK, but not one of my favorite winter ales.
