Commercial Description:
This unique seasonal beer offers the warmth of an old English pub to help ward off the chill of a winter’s night. It has its origins in British neighborhood pubs where villagers would gather to shake off the damp cold of the bitter English winter. They’d share a pint or two of winter warmer ale by the fire, catch up on local gossip, and stay inside, where it was warm. We’ve brewed our version in the tradition of those winter ales, with a robust, full-bodied flavor and a tangy hint of spices.

Pours a deep dark brown with a thick, forthy and nicely-lacing tan head. Nice rich toasty caramel toffee aroma has a touch of noble hops and some milk chocolate complexity. Body starts with good viscosity, nice, lightly sweet, full caramel maltiness and a smooth, lightly bitter dark chocolatey finish. A very nice and enjoyable winter warmer. Probably the best beer I’ve had from Summit yet.

A fairly good spiced ale. Falls short of amazing when compared to Anchor’s efforts. Not a bad beer--good on tap when in town.

Last of the Summit 4-pack sampler, and possibly the best. A very dark, reddish-brown body capped with a light brown head. Malty aromas with some prune and green leaves... alcohol scents when warm. Flavor starts bitter, reveals coffee, caramel and sweetness, then finishes sour. Medium-to-full-bodied with an almost-syrupy texture, but not potent... dare I say "sessionable"? A good, porter-caliber ale.

Pouring deep mahogany with a thin tan head, this has a deep roasted aroma with chocolate and nuts and coffee and spices. It’s a bit thing and watery in the mouth. The thusly weakened flavor still has plenty of roasted malts to enjoy along with bittersweet chocolate and some mild hopping on the finish. Odd ale.

Dark reddish brown with a small tan head. Aroma is very malty with nuts, some dark fruit and roast. Flavor of malt with some chocolate and tangy fruitiness.

Very dark garnet; small, frothy, off-white head; light lacing down the glass. Great aroma loaded with malts, and a touch of nutmeg and licorice; perhaps some dark cherry. Flavor, also, is mostly malts, with just a hint of chocolate; finish is chocolate and licorice and maybe even a little vanilla. Medium body but too thin for the style, in my opinion. A long way off from Anchor’s winter ale, but a decent beer; just a little weak in flavor and body.

Pours very dark with a fluffy light head that subsides quickly. Aroma is lightly hoppy. A bitter aftertaste is the best part of a less then average flavor.
