| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 23, 2003 Dark brown with a medium tan head. Aroma was incredibly light malt. Flavor was fantastic oak with nutmeg, nuts, and caramel malt. I find these beers facinating, where the aroma is very nondescript, yet the flavor is fantastic. It really takes you on a rollercoaster ride. hotstuff (3175), Indiana, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Dec 18, 2003 A small sized tan head that creamy and smooth with fine-medium sized bubbles that completely diminished. The body was carbonated with a mahogany hue. The nose malty with some caramel notes. The flavor was malty and caramel as well with a smooth mouthfeel and it was a medium bodied beer with fair lacing. whiterabbit81 (244), Tallahassee, Florida, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 18, 2003 Beer poured a nice, thick head and has a dark brown color. Lightly carbonated and leaves a nice lace around the glass. Tastes a lot like a Stout to me, with the flavor of coffee, caramel and chocolate persisting. Good brew. thedm (3834), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 18, 2003 This brew poured a small head of fine to medium sized light brown colored bubbles that left behind a semi-transparent dark brown colored softly carbonated body and a fair lace. The aroma was mildy vinuous and contained malt and hop notes. The mouthfeel was mildly tingly and had a slight hop tingle in the finish. It also had a smooth brown beer like flavor with notes of caramel and chocolate. JPDIPSO (4897), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA

Sweet mid roasted malts dominate the nose. Mild toasted malts with a light sweetness. Finish has a light bite of spice and alcohol. Smooth on the palate. Gmku (246), Asheville, North Carolina, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 3, 2003 Updated: Mar 4, 2004Not spectacular, but defiinitely okay. Still a seasonal favorite I keep coming back to. It's not exactly a winter ale, in my book--not like Blvd's nutcracker, for example. More like a porter, or even a dark alt. Nice hoppy aroma and taste. Just a tad watery in the mouth, but then that's my experience with most domestics, even the best ones. Nice roasted flavors. A lingering bitterness. Clinging circles of lace. Overall, a nice brew for these dark and cold evenings. I've found it tastes best around 60 degrees F; more flavorful at a slightly warmer temp than where I normally drink beer (around 50-55F). Although there are other winter and dark domestic beers I might prefer over this, I still think this is worth picking up at the right price. lilannie (383), State College, Pennsylvania, USA

Palate: Smooth with a bit of a harsh aftertaste, slightly carbonated like soda.
