Commercial Description:
This unique seasonal beer offers the warmth of an old English pub to help ward off the chill of a winter’s night. It has its origins in British neighborhood pubs where villagers would gather to shake off the damp cold of the bitter English winter. They’d share a pint or two of winter warmer ale by the fire, catch up on local gossip, and stay inside, where it was warm. We’ve brewed our version in the tradition of those winter ales, with a robust, full-bodied flavor and a tangy hint of spices.

20th Anniversary (2006) bottle. This beer has a strong, sweet, floral aroma that is quite pleasing. It pours a lovely dark brown, with a classic beige/tan head. The flavor is bitter and coffee-like, with just the right touch of sweetness. There is a good but not particularly strong aftertaste. It is clean and crisp going down the throat, more like a lager than an ale. This beer improves upon multiple tastings. It isn’t utterly spectacular, but it is another very nice production by a reliable Minnesota brewery. Re-rated after tasting on tap. Flavor dropped from 8 to 7.

It’s dark enough, but a tad thin in "flavour".

Pours a dark mahogany with some tan head. Smells of roast, dry chocolate, and maybe nuts. Thin and watery in the taste dept. Some roast and dry chocolate are noticed, finishes bitter.

Sampled at Food and Froth. Good. Exactly what it claims to be, nothing more, nothing less. Nice for a cold snowy night.

Bottle. Very dark. Good - pretty sweet with plenty of crystal malt flavor. Somewhat rich flavor.

Aroma: Kind of smells like cleaning supplies or rubbing alcohol with a bit of carmel and chocolate malts mixed in. Appearance: Dark brown, reddish with a small head. Flavor: Kind of watery, dry, and burnt tasting with slight chocolate and coffee flavors. Palate: Smooth with a bit of a harsh aftertaste, slightly carbonated like soda. Overall: Not very good wouldn't buy it again.

Deep amber with an off white head. Aroma is roasted malt with an odd note (spice?). Roasted caramel flavor. A bit sweet. Nice hop finish.

Pours dark brown color with a light tan head. Very nice sweet toffee malt aroma with some dark fruits. Great roasted complex malt flavors, chocolate, caramel and toffee with a hint of dark fruit. Very easy to drink, easily the best of the winter mix 12-pack.
