My bottle is older, my label is the older label. small head small lacing, nice caramel color, smell of malt, nut and caramel. smooth taste, slightly spicy, medium body not to much carbonation, malty and caramel finish, easy drinking.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
The appearance is a clear reddish brown with a large beige head, and the aroma blends toasted and caramel malts, earthy hops, and clove. The taste blends a mild umami, a slight sweetness, and a touch of sourness; the palate fuses a medium body, malty finish, slick texture, and a soft carbonation.

2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Somewhat bland english ale. Mild English malt aroma. Dark caramel color with a white head. Average weight palate. Carbonation was fine. Flavors were subtle and understated. Malty with some sweetness and maybe a little spice. Somewhat below average as this brewery has better offerings.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
A lighter winter ale for sure. Color is dark but not black. Very malt forward, with a nice sweetness, but not too much. A bit of hoppiness, too. An imperial version would be welcome.

3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Inspired by the frigid temperatures (clocking in at a balmy 1 degree Fahrenheit) and because I hadn’t had a Summit brew in quite awhile, I gave this a shot. Overall a pleasant beer , deep brown with an rich malty character, the beer finishes cleanly with a hint of spruce, caramel with carbonation lingering on the tongue. No complaints.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Poured dark brown with a two finger off white head. Nice aroma, roasty and bready. There was a hint of underlying spice as well. Taste was nice. Not a tremendous body to it, but enough, the nose followed through to the taste. A nice change of pace winter beer.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle to half-pint glass (shared with the Mrs.). Best by 04/07/14. Looks good; an almost completely opaque very dark brownish black with light beige head that steadily dissipates into lacing. Smells mildly sweet and malty with notes of winter spices. Tastes like it smells with a solid mouthfeel. Enjoyable.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Tap. Pint. Black with tan head and good lacing. Slightly sweet aroma. Starts bitter, with typical winter flavors. Has some toffee notes, then finishes clean. A Minneapolis winter staple.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Nose deep in dark caramel and toffee, very earthy, brown malt with wood and faint spice. Pours beautiful mahogany brown with an ephemeral tan head. Carbonation firm in the medium body, light tang and bitterness, some smoky/ashen character in with the nutty and fudgy/earthy malts. Lightly sweet with a faintly herbal touch, and there’s a great balance struck here between all the elements.
