COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Bitter Druid ESB is a new twist on an old favorite. Our Americanized ESB blends American 2-row pale malt with choice British specialty malts to create a rich malt start that is followed by a crisp, American hop finish. This beer is a wonderful gateway to the world of hops due to itís delicate balance and rich array of flavors.

Draft sample at IBGF Summer09. Poured clear golden color with an average fizzy white head that was mostly lasted with fair lacing. Moderate earthy hop and malty aroma. Medium body and smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium bitter flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. Good start.

1/2 growler courtesy of stfun. Pours amber with an off white head. Smells of citrus, earthy, some metallic hints, peppery, some tea. Tastes of biscuits, pepper, citrussy, some touches of caramel, grainy with a light, earthy finish.

IBGF 2009: I was looking forward to trying a new brewery and had high hopes, sadly after drinking this ESB I passed on attempting any others of the Sun King beers this day. Perhaps one day I will stop by and get them a second chance... Golden hue with an okay head and lace. The aroma has notes of clean bittering hops, Maris Otter and 2-Row malt and a hint of dusty yeast esters. The taste is slightly bitter and grainy with little else going on, while not bad it hardly made me want to take another sip. The mouth feel is soft and thin-bodied.Maybe it would be better on a handpull (which you can say about most ESBís anyway). Disappointing.

Sampled on tap at the brewery (Indianapolis, IN). Pours a nice solid amber, some lighter edges, a good whitish head that dies to a film, laces ok. Aromas are a touch of funky hops, grass and citrus pair with a light spice, a caramel and pale malt base, just ebough, with a touch of stinkiness, english type malts, a touch of metal, and a bit stale. Initial is lighter side of medium bodied, grainy malts, pale with bread and a touch of toffee, grassy and slightly spicy hops, a bit stinky. Sweet malts, decent hopping, but sadly a bit forgettable. And I generally really look forward to this style. Finish is malty, almost a touch of buttery bread or butterscotch, and light hopping. Ok.

Draft to taster. Looks solid; a completely transparent light copperish orange with white lacing. Smells and tastes mildly sweet and hoppy; maybe just a hint of grain too. Average on the palate. Not bad, but forgettable.

This draft brew from the brewery poured a medium sized head of foamy finely sized white colored bubbles that were long lasting and left behind a transparent uncarbonated orange brown colored body. The mild aroma was malty. The crisp mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish. The nice crisp flavor contained notes of malt and bitter hops. A quaff-able decent brew just nothing special.

Rated on 9-05-2009 at Sun King Brewery. This draft beer forms a small ivory head with a short retention, golden body, no carbonation noted, and one ring of lacing. The Aroma is malty and bitter hops. The Taste is malty and lightly bitter. The Palate is fizzy and this beer is medium bodied. Overall, I did not enjoy this beer as it lacks character and the flavor is bland and boring. This is a beer that I do not recommend unless one likes bland and boring tasting beer.

tap at the brewery - Pours lightly hazy copper with an off-white head. The aroma is mainly caramel malt. I didnít get much in the way of aromatic hops. The flavor has plenty of bittering hops. The hops profile has the earthiness similar to the previous Sun King brews I tasted, but more intense of course. Itís medium bodied and could use more malt character.
