Tap at FOBAB. agree with BBB rating. boat load a nail polish remover and paint thinner. something went wrong. some light toffee, vineger, and cocoa in the backdrop. slick body. tough to get past the medicine onslaught.

Draft sample at FOBAB 2010. Pours a cloudy reddish-amber color. Wow, I didn’t hate this one quite as much as some other people, but then again I’m still not as educated when it comes to sours and thought this was pretty interesting, if messy. Notes of tart grapes and berries, medicine, band aid, funky brett, acetone, and vinegar. Light-bodied, with harsh carbonation and mouthfeel. Not realyl getting any bourbon barrel notes in this one. Seems like this is in experimental stages.

BBB63 (5406) - La Porte, Indiana, USA - NOV 12, 2010
FoBAB 2010: Glowing amber with orangy highlights topped by a frothy head and good lace. The aroma is MEDICINAL, band-aid, acetone, rubbing alcohol, you name it, pure Chlorophenol rubbish! (oh, there is a hint of caramel covered apple and banana nut bread but really who cares after you nose hairs got burned off?) Sadly the band-aid overtone did not stop at the nose, it was of full frontal attack on the palate as well. Tannic, husky, teabag, lemon pledge, on and on. (oh, there is some biscuit, toast, and even a macadamia nutty flavors fleeing for their lives here). Even the mouth feel is awful, thin, boozy and green. A complete and utter disaster, the worst beer at the fest by more than a city block. I so looked forward to this, makes me sad to be a Hoosier. Oh well, I will still give Sun King other chances... see next rating.

Draft at FoBAB 8. Pours a translucent burnished bronze/brown with fizzy head. Nose is acetone, funk and sour. Pretty one dimensional. There is vinegar and vanill as well. There is really no structure to this one. A bit of a wreck. On taste, it is sour and sweet with phenols scraping across the tongue. With a cleaner ferment, could work better, but as it stands, a bit of a wreck.

TheAlum (4289) - Lisle, Illinois, USA - NOV 10, 2010
Sampled at FoBAB 2010 (Chicago, IL). Pours a pretty transparent auburn brown hue, some fire, dulled, small frothy offwhite head. Aromas are reddish wine hues, some tannins, wet oak, touches of brett and lactic acid. Some melon, red raspberry and blackberry. Initial reddish wine, bigger on tannins, melon and fruit punch fruitiness, light acidity moves into some light lactic acid, vinegar, wet oak, biscuits. Finishes with some grapey red wine, dry bitter tannins, tasty but a lighter bodied feel, thinned and maybe even a bit watery and vague - it’s true fault. A good display of wine barrel it seems, fruit punch. A nice first try, but needs more time and maybe a more solid base.

deyholla (4787) - Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, USA - NOV 9, 2010
Sampled from the tap at 2010 FOBAB. Poured a clear brown with an amber hue and a gray head that dissipated to the edges. Aroma was light with note of apple and pear that was slightly tart with a slight bandaid note. Flavor had a note of tart apple cider with some funk and a bit of an unfortunate bandaid note.
