3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft: Poured a clear brown color bock with a nice brown foamy head with OK retention and light lacing. Aroma of banana bread with light caramelized malt notes is quite pleasant. Taste is also a mix of banana bread with some caramelized toffee notes and some residual sugar notes. Body is about average for style with good carbonation. Well balanced with good drinkability.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap, poured into a sampler glass. The aroma is reminiscent of gingerbread cookies with a light cough syrup note and a light smokiness late. The beer is clear and oily with a dark, rich copper color and a white, dense froth head. It retains a medium thin ring with some surface dusting and a modetate, dense lace. The taste is a medium / medium high, malty sweet and light bitter. The beer is creamy with a fuzzy and a medium full body with flavors of caramel, roasted nuts and raisins on the palate. The finish brings gingerbread and cooked sugar flavors and it leaves an aftertaste that has a zesty character with a smokey and malty mellow lingering.

Draft. Toffee malt, hay, and light alcohol aroma. Amber with small head. Sweet light fruity barley malt and light astringent alcohol flavor. Good body. Tasty - on the light side style-wise though.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draft to taster. Looks good for the style; a transparent copperish orange with foamy off-white head that steadily dissipates into lacing. Smells sweet and malty. Tastes like it smells with a nice, smooth mouthfeel. Solid beer.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Sweet and malty. A nice brown pour. I thought this beer had much more flavor and character than other Sun King offerings lately. Caramel, molasses, and a little bit of gingerbread as described.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft at the Fort Wayne release party at CS3. Molasses... brown sugar... dark fruit... yea, this is just exactly the kind of beer I like drinking. A touch creamy with a frothy mouthfeel and just a hint of a boozy finish. Yum. Despite the 8.1 ABV, it felt like I could drink this all night. Although it was the last beer I had before my wife finally corralled me and ushered me home, it could have been the first of many more if not for the day’s late hour and the wife’s hateful glower. (God I’m clever when I’m drunk.)

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draft sample at the brewery. Pours a semi-cloudy amber color with a small off-white head. Notes of toasted and caramel malts, nuts, mildly spiced sweet bread, dried fruits (raisins, dates, prunes), and just a bit of earth. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a rich, malty mouthfeel. Very, very good doppelbock.
