3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
16 oz can, courtesy stfun. This one pours a glowing sunset orange color and topped by a small, smooth head of off white foam that slowly settles to a thin film and leaving sudsy spots of lace around the glass. Thousands of bubbles quickly move up the glass giving it a lively appearance. The aroma is very west coat in nature showing big, juicy grapefruit and orange citrus up front followed by a toasted caramel malt base to add some sweetness to back up all the hop bitterness. The flavor follows suit, but not quite as bright as nose suggests with the juicy orange and bitter grapefruit up front along with notes of resinous pine. Toasted caramel and biscuit malts provide the balancing counterpart, but everything still tends toward to the bitter side from all the hops. The palate is substantial with some residual sugars adding heft to go with moderate carbonation that leads to a lengthy, bitter finish. This one doesnít quite get as dry as some of the better west coast examples, but it is a really tasty brew and enjoyable to drink. Really good stuff. This brewery continues to impress.

Taste poured from a bomber on the bus at the BeerCraft 2nd Anniversary Party in August (based on notes): Grapefruit aroma, some grapefruit and blunt bitter flavors, bitter, oily medium bodied, finishes a bit sweet. Thanks EdHops from norcal beer geeks for sharing!

Can... Strong citrus aroma - grapefruit for sure, but thatís not all. Peels from a medley of citrus fruits. Medium-bodied with buoyant carbonation. The flavor tilts far into the bitter side of balance, but abundant medium-roast malts make their presence known. Bittersweet, rindy finish. Can shipped my way by StFun!

Pours a somewhat hazy amber with a smaller khaki head. Nose was quite subdued and malty, some citrusy orange trying to peek through the caramel malt. Fairly sweet, fairly bitter, not especially intense. Medium bodied, oily, grainy, finishing a bit dull. Not really impressed with this. Iíve had some good hoppy brews from Sun King, but this was not one of them.

Love all the citrus that comes through during the aromas and taste of this IPA. Acquired this via a trade and was my first from this brewery.

Growler from the Sun King tasting room. A medium amber, clear pour with a one inch head. Hoppy aroma. A hoppy, carbonated bite with a little sweetness and tart citrus at the end. Finishes with hoppy bitter.
