On tap at St. Elmo. Pours a deep ruby/caramel with a thin, near tan head that leaves lacing. Aroma has soft notes of caramel, bread, and fruity esters. Taste is balanced. Caramel, fruit esters, slight bread. Medium body and carbonation. Clean and creamy in the mouth. Overall very drinkable with caramel and an English yeast taste.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
From a can into an Ommegang chalice. Pours reddish brown with a large light brown head and lace. Aroma of rich malts and earth. Moderate carbonation and mouthfeel. Flavors of light malts, minerals, slight hay notes and caramel sweetness. Overall relatively easy drinking yet lacking the roasty, peaty, smoky or darker body I’ve had from other Scottish ales. Grainy, dry finish is to style.

16oz can, from Big Red in Indianapolis. Code on bottom of the can reads 14120. Pours a mostly clear brown amber color. Off-white head is bigger at first, but quickly fizzes away to a thin ring that doesn’t leave much head and just loose bits of lace. Caramel malt and dark fruity aroma. Bit of chocolate. Smooth, kind of crisp, lighter carbonation. Lightly slick. Moderate sweet taste, light bitterness. Solid scottish ale.

Growler share at DLD - nose and sip remind me more of a brown ale. It was kind of flat but a nice change of pace from BA stouts.

2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Clear brown pour with a small off-white head. Faint aromas of caramel and toffee. Flavor is mild maltiness not much depth. Easy to drink and unoffensive but not much going on here. Bland and boring.
