3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20 joet (1919) - Santa Rosa, California, USA - MAY 2, 2011
Scottish style brown ale my butt. Straight up malt liquor is more like it. But a good one. Heavy corn flavors. Dusty hops. Oxidized malts with bits of paper, metallic, medium caramels. Light lemon tang. The texture is well done -- effervescent and lightly creamy. No fusels nor apparent alcohol. Weird but solid.

Sample at Ale Wine & Spirits in Powell on 04/27/2012. Deep mahogany color with a medium off-white head that evaporates steadily. Spotty lacing. Caramel malt and citrus in the nose. Light to medium body with a sweet malty character and flavors of caramel, fruit and slight hops. The finish is sweet with a caramel and toffee aftertaste. Pretty average overall.

16 oz can from Sherm1016....Thanks. Pours a fairly clear brown....minor head that quickly departs...no lacing. Malty nose and mild taste. Nothing negative...just not much notable....good smooth session-able beer...but there are better ones out there.

Pours a need ruby, nice head that dissolves pretty quickly, aroma is weak, taste is weak, not sweet, a little malt bitterness. But I like the can.
2.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Roonai (135) - - SEP 2, 2011
Pours a rich mahogany brown with a thin off-white head that dissipated quickly. nose is light malt and chocolate. Taste is similar. Debating if the palate is ’thin’ or ’clean’. Though not a challenge, the beer is enjoyable with the pleasant roasty malt that isnt too intense.

Pours an earthy brown with off white head. Nose and taste is mellow, unassuming, notes of dark malts, caramel and chocolate. A bit muted. This is not a big beer in ABV or flavor. Worth picking up if you come across it, but not a must try.

16 oz. can from a trade with Sean & Amber. Dark copper in color. Nose is faint caramel and a light fruity type note. Flavor was weak nuts and caramel notes. The body of this brew is real thin. Toffee notes seem stronger when the beer was colder. I don’t taste hazelnut or chocolate. For the first time in a long while I enjoyed a beer when it was colder rather them warmer. This isn’t bad…. Just boring.

tap at the brewery - Pours light amber-brown with an off-white head. It was a very distinct caramel malt aroma. The flavor is caramel malt and some mild, earthy hops. It’s light bodied and overall a little milder than I’d like in a Scottish ale. Decent.
