Westy is somewhat of an i.p.a.Named after our 1985 VW delivery van,Westy is not normal. It is hopped with German noble hops and fermented with lager yeast, giving it a lot of unique flavors. The aroma is floral, the hop bite is spicy and the finish is crisp and dry like a lager.

Growler from Sun King. Pours crystal clear golden/orange with thick foaming white head. Nose is juicy orange hops with a touch of coriander/spice. Flavor is highly carbonated citrus hop punch with a nice tasting mellow malt backing. It has an odd taste that is different from anything they’ve put out so far. A little dry/earthy in the finish, but a wonderful citrus component throughout. Nice job on this style.

Draft sample @ Sun King. Light bready malt and citrus aroma - very light aroma. Clear copper with a large off-white head. LIght soapy hops, citrus, sweet bready malt flavor. Light body, moderate carbonation.

Tap sample under the name Westy Lager. Poured clear golden copper color with a moderate to large frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate complex floral hop and toasted malt aroma. Medium body with a dry slick texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy bittersweet flavor with a medium to heavy bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is a solid beer.

Served from the growler shared by awiseman01 at DLD ’10. The appearance is a solid golden orange with a small white head. A lot of spicy mild hop characters in here, some biscuit, and toffee make for nice notes. The mouth is dry. Pretty nice.
