Growler at Atlas courtesy of bockyhorsey -- thanks, Bill! Pours a bright orange color with mild carbonation and a trim white head that leaves plenty of lacing. Smells of underripe orange zest from across the table. Tastes of bitter orange rind, chewy caramel, and plenty of hops. This beer certainly has some bite.

11/5/09. growler shared by bocky... i wish someone would have told me this was 8.2% before i went and drank the bottom half of the growler!
vibrant coppery-brown/bronze-y orange with a thin off white head which dumps a bunch of spots of lace onto the wine glass.
i can smell all kinds of hops before it even gets to the ol’ sniffer... loads of pithy citrus (orange especially), grapefruit, pine and spice with some caramel maltiness to finish it off.
the flavor is fairly straight forward and shares the same characteristics of the aroma... enough malty sweetness to balance out the assault of hops! it is mildly sweet (though not overdone) up front with a balance of bitterness and a spicy dry finish. ashiness joins the party but shows up late in the aftertaste.
the body is medium though a bit thin for style (typically)... which i really enjoy as it is kept from sticky... terribly easy to put away. 8/3/7/4/15/3.7

On tap at Papago in March. Pours clear dark gold with a thin white head and spotty lacing. The nose is sweet citrus and caramel malt. The taste is ripe citrus, toffee and a nice grapefruit bite in the finish that lingers for awhile. Medium mouthfeel. Nice IPA.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 BOLTZ7555 (2371) - Phoenix, Arizona, USA - NOV 18, 2009
Really solid brew and highly drinkable (dangerous) for the style. 14 karat color with a frothy ivory head that left spotty lacing on the inside of the glass. Aroma is lemongrass, citrus pith, and ponderosa. Flavor is dominated by orange peel and tangerine zest, accompanied by a subtle caramel sweetness that accentuates rather than distracts. Medium to light body with ample carbonation. Bottoms up!!!
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 FlacoAlto (3450) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - FEB 20, 2010
Sampled at 1702, December 2009
The beer arrives from the tap with a lightly hazy copper color. The head is a wispy, pale ring of a head. The damn beer is filled to the top of the snifter and I find it hard to smell a thing; light notes of tropical fruit, grapefruit and lychee as well as some alcohol are noticeable, but they are all much more faint than they should be (this is just more justification for my preference to have everything in a tulip glass filled no more than 2/3 full).
The beer has a nice bitterness to it up front; there is a pine-bitterness that tingles the tongue. It is also a touch more cold than I might prefer. The beer finishes with ample tropical fruit flavors. The hops in fact, because of the fruitiness, contribute a perceived sweetness. This really opens up as it warms up, it becomes much fruitier and there is a solid anchoring bitterness that is not too aggressive for a Double IPA. The body has some heft to it, perhaps a touch more than I might prefer, but it is still quite quaffable.
This is definitely a nice Double IPA. I like the ample hop-fruit character and tempering bitterness that this beer has. It is definitely a hop dominated beer, so if you are looking for malt then definitely pass this one by.
