2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 MartinT (6150) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - JUL 20, 2009
My Bottom Line:
Mineral notes mar this Altbier’s caramel and toasted malts, as herbal hops succeed in piercing the watery body.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A ring of foam circles the amber-hued copper.
-As for every beer they had that day, the loose and somewhat empty mouthfeel was not inspiring at all.
-Dried fruitiness can found throughout.
-Hoppy bitterness is levelled, but unpolished.
On tap at the brewpub.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 jerc (5444) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 7, 2005
Maine Brewers Festival 2005. Copper amber body with a small white head. Subtle malt in the aroma with a touch of dry caramel? Similar notes in the flavour. Sweet maltiness but surprisingly dry overall impression. Average palate. This was a bit subtle for this late in the evening but it was quite pleasant nonetheless.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 muzzlehatch (4425) - Burlington, Vermont, USA - JUN 18, 2002
Bottled. Darkish brown, nearly opaque cloudy color topped with a decent quick-dying head; I got little lacing though. Nose is subtly malty with a hint of floral hoppiness. I thought the flavor pretty bold upfront, with some chocolate and almond nuttiness; kind of backs off at the end and the body could be more, but overall a nice effort. The only Stone Coast I picked up on my recent Maine trip, but I’ll try to find more.
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Gusler (2655) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - NOV 7, 2001
Nice deep dark color, decent head, generous lace. Malt nose with some floral undertones and to me just a hit of cocoa, full body, nice hop presence, but not overly so. Moderate carbonation and somewhat dry finish. Quite a good beer, thanks Venom!

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 VENOM (941) - Connecticut, USA - OCT 17, 2001
One of the best NE versions of an Alt. Excellent malt backbone of dry roasted nuts with some cocoa notes and fruity taste as well. Crisp and bitter balance adds to its charm. A nice brew that gets better warm.
