3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 OleR (4247) - Oslo, NORWAY - FEB 7, 2013
0.5 L bottle, by courtesy of Frank the brewer. A ring of tiny beige bubbles, upun a shiny reddish brown body. Dark caramel, mild roast and a fine apple-fruitiness on the nose. Smooth and quite full. Light sparkling carbonation. Good malt body. Delicate sweet and caramelly. Bread and nut tones. Distinct peppery bitterness. Complex and balanced. Top end "Norwegian grocery store" beer. 500ml swing top bottle, as Sundbytunet Juleĝl 2012, at Ĝltorget, Mathallen Oslo. Shared with the barman. Bubbly off-white head resting over a body in an unclear, dark amber colour. Spotty lacing down the glassware. Fine aroma of raisin and bitter anise. Blended Yuletide flavour of nuts, dried fruits and toffee leading to a smooth bitter fruity finish. Medium bodied. Surely one of the best Norwegian Christmas beers below 4.75 % this season (Oslo, 11.12.2012).

Bottle. A hazy, brown beer with a small, off-white head. The aroma has toffee, bread, pine cones and a faint roasted note. Soft carbonation, medium body, semi-dry. Quite evident bitterness, with a low level of sweetness, as well as some bread, toffee and nuts. Mostly bitter in the finish, with some notes of herbs. Not the typical Christmas beer from a Norwegian point of view, but it certainly suits my tastebuds. 121201
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Cunningham (2973) - Halden, NORWAY - NOV 10, 2012
Brownish colour with a fine tan head that leaves a nice lacing. A round mild sweet caramel malt aroma. Medium body with a balanced sweetness and a fine bitterness. Moderate carbonation. Lots of caramel malt in the flavour with a fine hoppy background and some fruity notes. Absolutely one of the best norwegian dunkel named Juleĝl. [On tap @ source]

2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20 ClubGonzo (2700) - Bergen, NORWAY - OCT 29, 2012
Botte sample at the Norwegian Brewery Associations yearly Christmas beer premiere. Pours a hazy bronze body with a small white head. Nose is sulfurous raisins, grains and hints of nuts and caramel. Taste is bitter herbs, sulfur, caramel and hints of straw and walnuts. Medium mouthfeel and carbonation. Not too impressed, to be honest.
