Brewed in the long-brewing tradition Sünner after the German Purity Law of 1516. Spicy, aromatic taste, refreshing and wholesome. A product Kölscher real life.

Clear gold beer, decent white head. Palate is smooth with good fine carbonation. Clean malts. Trace of floralness. Forensic trace of citrus. Light finish. Simple stuff but clean and drinkable.

Bottle from The Beerhive. Clear golden body with a medium white head. Lively carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of stainless steel and hay. Flavour of grain, boiled vegetables and a metallic finish. Thin body with a watery, sightly oily texture. Soft fizz. Not one I’d seek out again.

Poured clear, pale straw colour. Loose head which subsisted quickly leaving no lacing. Mild effervescence, thin watery body. Very easy drinking, like a mildly flavoured water. Somewhat cardboard-y taste. Not the best Kölsch I’ve ever had, not the worst.

33cl bottle. Clear golden colour with a small white head turning quickly to a persistent lacing. Malts, caramel and hat in the aroma. Average carbonation and light watery body. Taste is lightly bitter. Overall, a nice beer for a hot summer day.

500 ml bottle poured into a stange glass. "Best Before" date lists 05/2015. Aroma - Pale malt, caramel, light notes of honey, grassy hops, faint lemon. Appearance - Sticky, white head that dissipates quickly a top the clear straw-yellow liquid. Taste - Flavors reflect the aroma. Low bitterness with a slight puckering compliments the sweet malt flavors. A mineral-like flavor lingers on the palate shortly after swallowing. Sunner, unfortunately, lacks the fruity notes that I prefer in a solid kolsch. The upfront sweetness and reserved bitterness mesh well but part of the puzzle is missing. Palate - Light bodied and a bit thin. Carbonation felt disappointingly soft. Slight astringency (common for the style). Overall - It’s always possible that these bottles suffer from the long journey across the ocean. However, in this instance, Sunner is a decent offering but missing a key component.

Keg at the Pure Bar & Kitchen, Birmingham city centre. Mid tobdark gold, hazy, well-carbonated. Sulphur, apple skin, banana in the aroma. Taste is sweet, almost a hint of saccharin, with a bit sulphur hit at the end. Finish has more bitterness than the initial taste. I’m not all that keen.
