3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Very huge, white head, collapsing as whipped eggwhite; corn-gold clear beer. Pale malt, and surprising detergent (cleaning) agent in water; bit piney. Slightly roasted and buttery taste, reminds me of buttered toast. Malt & grain. Retronasal clearly some (G) hops. Rather watery MF, thinnish. Better than average Kölsch; not in the Malzmühle/Päffgen league.

(tap at Brauhaus Sünner im Walfisch) Pale yellow colour with a lasting white foamy head. Not much of aroma but a sweet malty nose and a hint of hops. Taste is weak but malty with a dry and unpleasant bitterhoppy finish. There are better brews to explore at the Salzgasse, better get a Päffgen a few metres away or a Pfaffen right at the corner to the Heumarkt.

2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
From the tap: pale golden colour, small firm head, lasting; sweetish bready nose (cookies); sweetish, malty beginning; kind of bready, perfumed taste; short bitter aftertaste; not a must, when in Cologne- the typical character of this beer-style is only hard to find.......

Barrel, at Zum Walfische in Köln. Straw gold, good lasting white head and gentle condition. Delicate sweet malty aromas with some trace hoppiness. Soft malt in the mouth with a developing tinny hop note. Gentle hop and malt balance in the finish.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
UPDATED: DEC 9, 2003 On tap at the XX bar, Friesian Quarter, Cologne. This is not a stand out kolsch, but it is still a well executed beer. It doesn't have a particularly distinctive taste, or a quality which sets it apart: lacking the smoothness of Fruh, or the dryness of Reissdorf - but it does it's job, and is refreshing and crisp.

Fizzy and dry. Don't like it at all. One of the worst kolsch's I've had. Big disappointment.
