2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Pour is light as expected with a tiny white head. It’s drinkable but there’s not much else, refreshing.

1st May 2015: hand-pulled half-pint at The Crown Inn, Oakengates during their 38th Beer Festival (30 hand-pulls, twice a year). Clear and bright blonde body, on top a white head. Tropical fruit aroma and initial taste, turning mildly bitter in the finish: not bad.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Keg at Craft Beer Rising. A clear golden colour with a thin white head. Aroma is tropical of peach, passion fruit, mango and some pine. Taste is very similar with a caramel sweetness. Light bodied and a soft carbonation. A short citrus bitterness in the finish. Bittersweet and quiet refreshing.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
(Cask at Black Door, 20150211) The beer poured amber and almost clear. Its head was white and small. Aroma had grass, herbalness and toffee. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were malts, caramel, sweetness and bitterness. Aftertaste was sweet and bitter. A good bitter showin English hops.

3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draught (Black Door, Helsinki)
The alleged aroma simply does not exist. There’s a sweetness, and a touch of copper, that’s all. Pale amber, nice tight head, alas not al lasting as I’d like, but I don’t see liquid at the top even 5 minutes later, so it’s not a brief head by any means. Palate beautifully soft. Scarily so. It’s kinda spooky, but the beer is just hugging and smothering every surface it touches, and no matter ho much I lick, it hugs my tongue in revenge. After the so so smooth malts, no so much hops. They’re there, and they’re bitter, very bitter. But in the mouth the starches win. But in the finish, the big finish, the hops are pissed off, and showing their pec’s. Such a massive bitter finish. That totally cements the 5 palate - body and finish, both are nailed. Herbal and spicy, resiny, they’re big, but all of it feels organic, part of a bigger whole, unlike the inferior brews I’ve had this evening, which just did feeble hop shock porn. Perfect example of when overall >> aroma + taste, as it comes together nicely.

Who’d Ha Thought It, Rochester. Drinkable blonde, but lacking in character and interest. Decent aroma, but a bit lacking in flavour and body. OK.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Cask @ Grapes, Oxford. Deep yellow-gold; fairly still with a bit of head. Aroma of white grape and pineapple, not overpowering but not weak either. Fresh and balanced initial taste, followed by a sour-bitter finish. Slight taste of soap in the aftertaste. Decent but not exciting. More hop aroma than your average UK golden though.
