COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Regular.
Traditional copper coloured best bitter/session ale based on a 1920s recipe from the old Dolphin Poole brewery. This beer came about as an experiment in to researching our Dorset premium ale and was never meant to leave the brewery. As word spread, popular demand meant we had to release the experimental batch for sale and it is now in regular production.
Malt: Maris Otter Pale, Mild Ale Malt, Chocolate & Crystal
Hops: Brambling Cross & East Kent Goldings

Lovely aroma. Appearance is a bit fishy. Half clear. Half cloudy. It doesn't know what it wants to be. Clear taste. Tastes like cheese. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Cask at the Lyric, Soho, 05/09/14. Clear chestnut brown with a well appointed beige covering that retains well. Nose is green apple, light toffee, woody vibes. Taste comprises caramel, mellow fruit, light spice, brown bread, biscuit. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, drying close with bitterness present. Adequate bitter.

Cask at Old Rooms, Weymouth. Cloudy pale yellow in colour, certainly not amber. The initial aroma is promising with fresh hops, but it is sadly downhill from there. The first taste again provides pleasant hop tastes but is immediately overwhelmed by a very unpleasant backbone full of frankly nasty flavours. The malt aspects are not particularly balanced against the hops, but the main issue is something different - I believe the water chemistry may be seriously flawed. I’ve toured this brewery (it is local to me) and all the beers show this same characteristic, an unpleasant off-flavour dominates the water and main body of the beer. It is almost as though someone has added a spoon of table salt straight to the glass. A shame.

Cask conditioned handpump Market Porter London 29/05/14. A dark brown coloured beer with an off-white head. A malty beer with husky notes. Sweet and a bit thin. Something weird and unrecognisable in the nose. Not my thing.

Copper, opaque, thin bright white head; malt, some vinousness on the aroma; lightly sweet, with an interesting, well rounded dark fruit flavour, a hint of candy peel; some earthy hops and just that hint of vinousness again on the finish; moderately bitter; smooth; good depth of flavour for a session strength bitter.

Gravity, Leicester BF 2013, 22/03/13. Deep clear bronze loosely crowned with bubbles. Aroma that could go either way; vegetable scraps, saline and some pleasing toffee aspects. Discreetly smoky, well done veggie sausage undertones; sweet toffee malt, almost chocolate Eclair (the sweet); hazelnut, mineral hints. No twigs. Above average BSB.
