2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
(Bottle 33 cl) Pours a clear golden with a white head. Aroma of malt and a little flowers. Medium body with sweetish malts and flower notes and a surprisingly distinct bitterness. Surprisingly characterful for a NZ Pale Lager. 210208

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
330ml bottle. Pours a relatively faint pale yellow with a short minimal fine head. Muted bready aroma with a touch of honey. Strange first taste, perhaps more bitter than expected. Some earthyness and yes, can get the mineral thing too. Lightens at the finish. As a local ’alternative’ from a small brewery a pretty good effort. I do however prefer the draught version that I understand is not as heavily filtered.

2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle bought in Auckland. Pours a plae yellow with a short fuzzy white head. Aroma of grains, bit sweet with some hoppiness. Flavour is rather thin, hoppy and maltish. Simple rather boring brew.

2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Draught at The Malthouse, Wellington. Clear golden, near no head. Dusty orange aroma. Dryish with clean, rounded mouthfeel. Notes of peach and other fruits, low bitterness. A straight forward lager a notch above the mass market products.

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Tasted 30/03/2005. 3330ml bottle at Neil Miller’s Cellar-Vate tasting.
Honey aroma with a touch of hops. Flavour is a bit caramelly with good grassy hops and a cleansing bitterness. Mr Miller reckons it’s strongly "mineral" but I think he must have got that another time because it just turns to boiled veges for me. Started good and went downhill. Still, it’s certainly well above the average NZ beer (which is brought down considerably by a few shockers).

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Straw gold in colour, big white head, high hoppy aroma, big bitter bite. Flavour lingers in mouth for a long time. Who knew that they could brew beer on the East coast, must be the water.
Neil must have had a bad batch. This lager is similar to most mass produced beer in NZ.

0.5 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 1/20
Smoky nose and pale beer. The head disappears quickly. The taste is thin, nasty, sharp and has a strange cardboard and smoky taste. A really poor beer that is a drainpour I fear.
