Roasted malt aroma, a little soapy. Caramel malt flavor, hints of red fruit, herbs, bittersweet finish. A tad better than the usual version, has a bit more crisp despite still being quite watery.

330 ml can poured into a small hotel glass. Clear dark brownish amber with light tan head. Aromas of caramel, malt, light roast. Tastes of caramel, malt, light spice and roast, a bit of dark fruit. Light body with a dry finish. Not bad.

dark smokey cherries, oranges and fairly complex. Malty body, smoke lingers a bit. Full body. A mainstream malty Old Ale.

500ml can bought at Circle-K in Sheung Shui Centre , Sheung Shui.

Clear deep amber brown colour; Two finger head and crumpety off-white foam which lasts for 3 minutes; Small sticky lacing with fizzy carbonation; Aroma of Lager malt, with very notable roastyness, strong caramel, faint dark fruits, thick molasses, toffee, light brown sugar, strong dark bread, yeast, very light lemon and grass; Mid to strong sweet taste of lager and dark malt, with strong roastyness, strong caramel, toffee, strong molasses, light bread, yeast, light lemon, quite strong bitter hops and moderate grass; Mid to light body. Slick and thick palate; Mouth feel is, as advertised, a 50-50 mix of lager and dark malts. Good strong body, very thick to tongue with strong caramel and toffee, thick but pleasant molasses sweetness. Good light dark bread and yeast, quite fulfilling. Good!... Hoppiness is light lemon and grass in nose and taste. Bitterness is notably strong for an Amber, strong in taste but not quite enough to counter the sweetness for a long, sweet-bitter finish; Dry after taste. Easy and sweet to mouth.

Comments: I think this one succeeds in what it was supposed to deliver - a blend of Premium Lager (the regular Premium Maltís) and Schwarz (the Premium maltís Dark) to provide a rich and balanced Amber Lager mix - this tastes richer and more fulfilling than most macro Amber Lagers, and has a good booze level to excite. Very enjoyable!

UPDATED: DEC 2, 2014 Strong mouthfeel..........liquorice, malt, mild chocolate and mild hoppy bitterness. Remnants of the Premium maltís...with less of a herbal taste. It is a stab at a dunkel but I think but comes across as a lager. I didnít know it was a darker beer till I poured it out. Still very enjoyable however.

While much better than the regular Premium Malts, that doesnít really say much. Something akin to cola.

przyjemny, ziołowo-karmelowy zapach. kolor ciemno-czerwony, pod światło rubinowy. piana beżowa, średnio trwała. w smaku pełne, karmelowe, wyczuwalny przypieczony chleb, goryczka dość niska, ale przyjemna

350 ml can from a supermarket near my house. Pours nice with a big head. Color is dark amber, looks actually pretty good. Slight aroma of soap, some sweet corn. Taste is quite soft and smooth. There is some roasty malt flavour but this feels to be somewhat mellowed down. It says "blend" on the can and I guess this means it is a mix of usual Premium Malts and some Suntory-produced dark beer. If not so, it still certainly tastes like this. Overall, not off-putting in any way, but not good either.

Drunk from the can at Matsukawa Saketen, 260 yen. An amber color with a a malty, nutty, sweet taste & a light body but fairly balanced. Better than I expected.

UPDATED: DEC 2, 2014 Had the 2014 version and it was much better, good malt character and balance. Way beyond last year.
Had this again and it was much better. The glass? Decent all-malt Vienna. Can. Reddish amber. Nose of caramel and some metal. S
