Pour medium yellow with a big white head. Traces of malt aroma. Noticeable malt taste. Lots of carbonation. Not bad as a mass produced lager. But cannot compare with a decent craft beer.

2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Found at the local Family Mart. Probably one of the better beers to buy in China. Extremely cheap. Not sure why itís labeled as Premium because itís still very low on the tast factor. Suitable for crushing....

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
December 6th, 2010 - Beer blogs and certain brewers will be eager to tell you about the gains made in the civil war waging in Japan. No, the Boshin sensou hasnít re-ignited, but their is a battle of wits and laws and economics being waged, and the prize is the hearts, minds and guts of Japanís affable quaffers. One of the keystones of the macrobrewers is the Suntory Premium Malts - unfortunately, it is the Lexus of the beer aisle at 7-11 or Suntoryís, in price and prestige. In all fairness, the taste is fuller, thicker, pairing that universal pale lager bitterness with genuine malt and wheat flavors, and even soft touches of puffed rice. The color too suggests substance - deep and golden like a cider. Still, it is a lot to pay for a minute improvement, and when youíve just given up the whole beer drinking hobby in Japan in favor of munching kaki no pea and drinking sake, the financial disincentives are too strong. I hope that this standard bearer of luxury is knocked on the side of its head, and that one of Japanís many aspiring craft brewers can show the islands what a good beer is for (even if it costs a couple hundred yen more.) That will be the kind of beer where you can forget your socio-economic or demographic woes, or even better, ponder fixes for them. The Suntory Premium Malts? A relic of an age whoís time is passing in America, and whoís time may also pass on the other side of the Pacific Ocean.

2.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Cheesy aroma, malts. Appearance is golden. Taste is full, malts. At first, palate is sharp but disappears really fast. A good beer.

Brown bottle in Hong Kong (334mls) as "The Premium Malts Suntory Pilsner Beer" (5.5% ABV). A golden beer with a small short lasting lasting white head. Nose of sweet golden malts and little else. Flavours are similar with a light hop presence. Reminds me of Crown Lager in Australia sold as a "premium lager" in a similarly shaped bottle.

2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
500ml Can. Pours yellow-gold with a thick white head, that quickly dissapears. Smells cheesy yeast, with some caramel malts. Tastes lively with strong cheesy yeast, some citrus hops and a small amount of caramel malt. Altogether not a bad lager.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle - Pale yellow gold with a thick creamy lacy head. Smells of citrus hops, fruit and sweet malt with some lemon grass. Grainy dense medium body. Taste of malt and a light fruitness with a bitter dry hop aftertaste. Nice balance with a decent amount of malt. Though this is one of the best of the mega produced beers its still not that wonderful.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
(on tap) Clear golden with good head. Pleasant aroma. Nice mouthfeel, light body but not watery, with nice carbonation. The flavour is slightly disorienting. It has some decent matliness and it has some nice hoppiness and there is some bitterness in the finish, but it somehow doesnít seem quite right, as though the separate parts of the flavour have been isolated, tweaked and then put back together. Overall this is definitely drinkable, and compares well with mainstream beers in the region, but is somehow a little odd.
