2.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
I knew this was clear and medium gold even before I opened the can. After all, it's a Suntory beer. Medium white head with good lacing.
A very light scent and a mild flavor too. A bit of a tangy front mith a mildly bitter middle giving way to a sweet aftertaste. An interesting Japanese macro, glad I found it.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 9/20
[Canned, as Suntory The Premium Malts] Clear golden, rich head. Very light grassy nose. Firmly malty with dense mouthfeel. Notes of butter before a lightly spicy and bitter finish. A solid, well balanced lager.

Pale gold with a white head. Husky and piney or minty. Light bodied and clean with a malty finish.

Draft. A generously malted lager. The result of which is perhaps a sweetness a bit much for my palate.

December 6th, 2010 - Beer blogs and certain brewers will be eager to tell you about the gains made in the civil war waging in Japan. No, the Boshin sensou hasn’t re-ignited, but their is a battle of wits and laws and economics being waged, and the prize is the hearts, minds and guts of Japan’s affable quaffers. One of the keystones of the macrobrewers is the Suntory Premium Malts - unfortunately, it is the Lexus of the beer aisle at 7-11 or Suntory’s, in price and prestige. In all fairness, the taste is fuller, thicker, pairing that universal pale lager bitterness with genuine malt and wheat flavors, and even soft touches of puffed rice. The color too suggests substance - deep and golden like a cider. Still, it is a lot to pay for a minute improvement, and when you’ve just given up the whole beer drinking hobby in Japan in favor of munching kaki no pea and drinking sake, the financial disincentives are too strong. I hope that this standard bearer of luxury is knocked on the side of its head, and that one of Japan’s many aspiring craft brewers can show the islands what a good beer is for (even if it costs a couple hundred yen more.) That will be the kind of beer where you can forget your socio-economic or demographic woes, or even better, ponder fixes for them. The Suntory Premium Malts? A relic of an age who’s time is passing in America, and who’s time may also pass on the other side of the Pacific Ocean.

Smooth and sweet malts, then a touch of bitterness. Clean and crisp while still effervescent but flattens quickly, and there is a jarring taste of alcohol heat at the finish. Drinkable but not something I’d ask for again.

Faint malty aroma. Ok malty taste without unpleasant flavors. Simple and somewhat elegant. Easy to drink.

Bottle to plain glass
Our first beer on our Japanese tour. Not very excited about this one, but after 24 hours of traveling, I'll do my best. It's accompanying some sushi, so I won't complain too much.
Aroma of grains and hay and horse piss. Bright clear amber with no discern able head. The taste is disgusting; I don't have the words right now.

2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
The aroma is so faint and uninteresting that I just don’t care. The palate, however, really struck me. It is oily, but also much creamier than other Japanese macros I have consumed. That’s all that I could really note. Everything else is nothing to rave about - airy, soapy head that leaves some random lacing; nearly dead, translucent bronze-yellow body; the hops seem to play near the finish, and I did like actually it, which then helped me note the aroma.

Thanks to Capa for this brew. Pours a golden color with a white head. Not really much to the aroma but is mostly sweet malts, grassy tones, and a slight hint of some hops. Flavor is lighter with plenty of the sweet malts and grass with a little hop presence. Definitly better then most pale lagers.
