COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Fabian stout on pikimusta pintahiivaolut. Paahteisessa ja kuivassa oluessa on tälle tyypillinen runsaan humaloinnin puraisu, jota täydentää pitkä ja miellyttävä jälkimaku.

UPDATED: APR 16, 2014 500 ml bottle @ Brygga Streetbar
Dark cola coloured beer with a big cloudy blonde head leaving lacing. Aroma is mild but has roastiness, chocolate and oats. Flavour is dry with almost sour roastiness and bitter coffee. Finish has little bitterness leaving the burned roastiness in the aftertaste. Thinner than medium with medium carbonation. Your basic dry stout, surprisingly good from Suomenlinna.

Rich in flavours. Chocolate, Coffee, maneur, Black currant, basement. A bit too much grapefruit. Great balance, great palate. Well done again Suomenlinna (feels more Alco than 5?)

Draught at bar. Black color, beige head. Bittersweet taste with chocolate, vanilla, earthy notes, nuts and roasted malts. Bitter finish with hops and coffee. Good stout, with a twist.

Draught (at Oluthuone Kaisla). Head is mostly diminishing. Body is black. Aroma is moderately malty (roasted grain, chocolate, burnt popcorn), moderately hoppy (resin, grapefruit), with a note of berries. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, moderately to heavily bitter. Medium body, velvety texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic. An Americanized, hop-bomb example that I tried hard to like but just couldn’t commit to. Some burnt popcorn came out as it warmed, but otherwise it seemed clean. Just too much hops for my tastes, ultimately.

Draft at Oluthuone Kaisla.
Dark. Heavy roast with somewhat strong English and American hops in the nose. Some pine sap, some black patent char, some yeast film / siltiness. Bitter, mostly dry, roast-heavy, a bit acidic and a bit sour with a lot of citrus fruit flavor and acidity. My palate may not have been in tune with it at the time. After being wowed by the drafts and bottles at Suomenlinnan Panimo the next day I started to doubt I did a good job evaluating this one. It also may have been in poor shape or good shape, that is the problem with only having something once. Certainly worth another few tries the next time I’m in Helsinki.

Tap (kaisla, Helsinki)
lovely roast, but also quite mashy aroma, 6+, but the rawness is a bit raw. Bloody dark, small tight head. Very nice rainy taste, bitter huskiness, Huskiness maybe too strong, but it pays dividends in the finish, this is as bitter as fuck. Some roastiness in the retronasals too. Damn, this is so freaking dry. no sure if thhis is really a stout, it’s too bitter for that. tingle in the mouth lasts for ever. Nutty and burnt. So dry. In some ways this is a bit messed up and too brutal, but in realty it’s the quaffer you’re happy to make last an hour.
