COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Suomenlinnan Panimon punertava lager-olut (4,7 til-%) on tehty kolmesta viljasta, rukiista (Secale), vehnästä (Triticum) ja ohrasta (Hordeum), joiden alkukirjaimista on myös saanut nimensä – Seth. Seth on maltainen, vahvarunkoinen lager, jonka rukiinen runko piristyy vehnällä ja taittuu pitkällä, mutta miedolla humalan puraisulla. Oluen nimi Seth linkittyy tiiviisti myös Suomenlinnan historiaan. Gabriel von Seth (1690-1774) oli paitsi linnoituksen rakentajan Ehrensvärdin hyvä ystävä, myös tunnettu vaikuttaja ja herkkusuu. Bastion Seth seisoo edelleenkin osana Suomenlinnan linnoitusta keskellä vehreää Komendantin yrttitarhaa.

Suomenlinna Brewery’s reddish lager (4.7% vol) is made of three grains, rye (Secale), wheat (Triticum) and barley (Hordeum), which initials are also in the name of this beer. Seth is a malty, strong-bodied lager, which ryeish body is refreshed with wheat and a mild bite of hops. The name of the beer is also closely linked with the history of Suomenlinna. Gabriel von Seth (1690-1774) was not only the fortress builder Ehrensvärd’s a good friend, also known as a contributor and gourmet. Bastion Seth still stands as part of Suomenlinna seafortress in the middle of a verdant herb garden.

Aroma is somewhat sweet with lots of grainy malt. Flavour is somewhat sweet and rather malty with grain and hints of nuts. Starchy feeling here. Quite bulky to be a microbrewery beer. And failed to pair with my salad with smoked salmon.

It seems that these rye lagers are still not my cup of tea.

Pours a golden orange colour with a white head. Aroma of grainy malts, some exotic fruitiness and grass. Flavour of grassy hops, grainy malts, cardboard, almonds, exotic fruitiness and hay. Medium bodied, slick mouthfeel and high carbonation. Decent.

Bottle. Clear amber beer with a big lacy offwhite head. Hoppy, floral, nutty, bready and honey aroma. Similar flavour. Nice lager :-)

Bottle from Prisma, Kemi. Slightly hazy copper coloured beer with head first bubbly then dissapearing to leave only a ring around the glass. Wheat can be spotted straight from the aroma which has sweet malts and grassy hops too. In flavour comes the rye malts first. Tastes quite sweet actually and a bit metallic too. Good body for the ABV and quite a lot carbonation.

Bottle, thanks to oh6gdx. Clear golden beer with a rich offwhite head. Malty aroma, dark bread, caramel, hazelnuts notes, some toffee, some honey. Hazelnut flavor, dark bread, caramel, grassy, metal notes, earthy, citrus, some toffee.

Bottle. Yellow golden, a hint of haze. Grainy malty, greeny hops. Some yeast. Body is light, malty.. musty. Leafy hops, some unripe citrus. A bit unclean, homebrewish. Not too bad; a light green-hoppy lager.

Bottle from Tbone, thanks! Golden color. Vague citrus aroma. Citrus flavor, satisfyingly hopped. Yeasty by-flavors spoil the fun a bit.

Bottle from super market. Amber color, white head. Bitter taste with citrus, malts, grass and toast. Nicely balanced body. Dry bitter finish. Quite nice brew.

50 cl, bottled. Pours clear rust with a white head. Aroma: Grainy rye malt, traces of wheat. Taste: Below moderate sweet, some mild bitterness. Rye bread, grains. Mild hay and grass. Palate: Near medium body, medium carbonation. Not bad. Decent.

500 ml bottle. Clear dark orange-amber colour, thin off-white head. Sweetish malty aroma with notes of rye and berries. The flavour is bready-malty, with rye and a mildly grassy-hoppy finish. OK, but nothing special.
