3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from a recent trade. Thanks! Snifter at home. Pours a cloudy golden orange with a thin disappearing head. No lacing. Aroma is pine, orange zest, slight grapefruit, and herbs. The taste is a face punch of bitter hops, spruce resin, birch sap, orange, grapefruit, dandelion, and herbs. The body is medium for a DIPA and the carb was medium. Serious bitterness on the finish that lingers for quite some time. Just a little over the top for my palette. A bit oily and chewy.

Not bad. Orange yellow pour white head. Sticks and pine aroma. Sticky body with some spice and resin aroma. Lots of malt, too much for my liking. Dank hops in a medium body light carbonation.

Pour is light orange with a medium white head. Aroma is very floral with some subtle fruit in the background. Flavor is crisp bitter hops, resin, pine, and citrus juice. Finish has a bit of booze and perfume.

From FlandersNed-thanks, Steve! Light orange gold. Honey, sweet malts, massive citrus hops with some pine. Distinct mandarin/tangerine flesh and zest, solid malty core, and something I couldn’t quite put my finger on. Lingering bitter citrus pith finish. Loved this one.

12oz bottle, big thanks to umich03jm. Poured into my DFH IPA glass. Mostly hazy golden, slight orange color. Thin off-white head, leaves decent bits of lace. Big resiny, piney hop aroma. A light bit of hoppy heat on it. Very intense indeed, kind of has a hop bite to it. Big bitter taste, light zest, light sweet, and a light bite at the end. Bigger body. Lighter, kind of crisp carbonation. More slick texture. Not as easy-drinking as I’d like. Too much bitter, too much bite on it for an 8% DIPA. Drinks like 10% or more. I much preferred the balance that Short’s Liberator (another 8% DIPA) had. Still, an interesting hop aroma to it. Beneath the pine and resin, I start to get a little berry flavor, which is interesting. Some biscuity malt. Solid, assertive, super-hoppy DIPA overall. I think a couple years ago, I would have been gonzo about the over the top hops in this. But now I seek more balance, it seems. I never thought I’d say this... But am I over hops?

Tasty and boozy DIPA. Good hoppy beer, drinkable and accompaniment to a meal.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Sample from a gift bottle. Pours a paler golden with a frothy khaki head that settles and leaves some spotty, intricate lace. Nose is a melange of hop aromas, including spice, melon, grapefruit, orange, mango, floral notes, and then some toasted malt. Somewhat sweet, quite bitter. Medium bodied, oily, softer carb, bright, with a long hoppy finish. Another awesome hoppy Short’s brew. And for a good cause, at that.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
The Superfluid pours a cloudy dark orange with an off-white head that lasts a good while. The aroma is loaded with resin hops while a sturdy scotch and caramel malt backbone is present. The flavor is just a punch in the mouth of hops with a brief moment where the caramel comes through from the malts and then the bitter hops ride out well into the aftertaste. This beer is pretty good. Perhaps the hops dominate the palate too much, but if you are into that kind of thing then here is a brew for you.
