Our Cascadian Dark Ale features vibrant citrusy and floral American hops balanced against a complex malt profile of toasty dark malts with a hint of roasted barley. Just like an early morning surf session, once you start you keep going back.

Formerly Surf Patrol Black IPA.

Bomber from Total Wine in Huntington Beach, CA. Pours dark brown with a beige/tan head. Aroma seems pine over roast/burnt malt. Med body. Flavor is malty, chocolate, pine (or perhaps citrus). Decent version.

Transfer from BA review on 1-22-13- Served on tap in a pint glass Appearance – The beer is served a nearly pitch black colored brew with a one finger cream colored head. The head fades over a moderate amount of lime to leave a fair level of lacing on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma of the brew is heaviest of a roasted malt and semi-sweet chocolate smell. Mixed with these are some sweet caramel as well as a lighter floral and citrus hop. Taste – The taste begins with a smoother roasted malt and chocolate taste. Hints of a caramel sweetness are up front which fade more over time as flavors of a pine and citrus hop begin coming to the tongue. The citrus remains relatively light while the pine gets stronger to the end, where a earthy hop joins the flavor to leave a moderately hopped roasted flavor are linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer has a medium amount of creaminess and a slightly lower level of carbonation. It is quite nice for the moderate hop level as well as roasted flavors of the brew as it creates a very soothing feel on the tongue. Overall – A very tasty, rather moderately hopped, black IPA. It is a good blend of a black ale, with nice roasty flavor with hints of sweetness, and hop.

Bottle split at Bruce’s parlour, big thanks to fellow CDA Bro - LKS. Extremely dark mahogany brown with a decent sized light tan cap that dissipates to a thin covering. Nose is dark red berry fruit, light roast, earthy cocoa, dark toffee fudge, pine linger, earthy hop. Taste comprises red berry fruit, cocoa rub, pine bite, light smoke, hint of spice, earthy hop bitterness in a semi drying close with fine carbonation. Decent CDA.

Bottle from Marketplace Alehouse and Deli, Doncaster. Clear, dark, reddy brown. Tidy, lasting, sticky, tan head. Chocolatey malt. Fusty pine. Light, ripe orange. Hint of blackcurrant. Taste is cocoa dry, with a pine bitterness. A little dark chocolate sweetness, too. Plenty of body, with a touch of booze. Finish sets off quite dry, with a lengthy bitterness turning woody. Bit dry, but very decent.

65 cl bottle.
Pours black color with a thick off-white head. Roasty, a bit burnt even, malty aroma, some fruits and hops with faint licorice notes on the background. Flavor follows the same lines, maybe some ashy chocolate also. Quite smooth with low carbonation. Maybe not the most aggressive CDA but it has a good body and a nice soft bitter finish. Better than expected anyway.

Tasting at Bruce’s pad. Thanks to Leighton. Opaque brown beer, good pale tan head. Palate is airy and light with fine carbonation. The dark malts are not heavy but they are robust, bringing bitterness and dark chocolate. Piney hops, slighlty sweet. A bare whisper of citrus before a light dry finish. Bitter linger. Full on CDA.

Bottle thanks to Leighton. It pours near black with a thick light tan head. The nose is pine needles, sherbet, roasted malt, orange peel and chocolate powder. The taste is bitter, roasty, toast, charred wood, earth, cocoa, pine needles, soapy edge and pepper with a dry, roasty finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Decent enough cda.
