Our Cascadian Dark Ale features vibrant citrusy and floral American hops balanced against a complex malt profile of toasty dark malts with a hint of roasted barley. Just like an early morning surf session, once you start you keep going back.

Formerly Surf Patrol Black IPA.

25 apr 2014, bottle. Dark brown. Nose is pine hops and burnt crust. Thin/med body, mildly creamy, mildly fizzy. Slightly meaty, bitter finish, dark toast all through. Not bad actually. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Charred wood, cocoa, floral and tropical fruit aromas and light vegetal taste in the background from a clear dark brown/orange body with a light tan head. More cocoa in the taste along with tangy grapefruit bitterness, then a dry, charred bite. The bitterness seems to build as you go, but there’s enough juiciness and dark chocolate sweetness to keep it in check. Finishes very dry and keeps it going on the tongue long after it’s gone. Very tasty black IPA.

Great IPA on tap at Venice Alehouse, lots of dark malts mixed with those delicious piney hops, very good.

Tap at Venice Ale House thanks to DedicatedToFun! Clear cola red pour with almost nitro looking tan foam. Big complete lacing. Nose is savory with soy, grilled apple, tootsie roll, mild butter, walnut. Slightly mealy palate with decent nuttiness and wicked walnut dry bitterness. No flaws. Medium body with very high IBUs. Rich, spicy finish.

Bottle. Dark red/brown pour with a hefty tan head. Aroma is heavy roasted grain and pine with hop bitterness. Taste roast with light chocolate and some bitter coffee with bitterness. Clean mouthfeel. Roast heavy but hop light. Decent.

From a bottle,a very dark red, roasty, white head, medium body, oily feel, average carbonation, this is a great black ipa.

22oz bottle pours a dark dark brown with a foamy head. Strong hop flavors and a bit of roasted malt but not a lot of balance in the taste.

Aroma: Pine resin and grapefruit. Appearance: Black with a substantial brown head. Flavor: Acrid. burnt grain and plenty of hop bitterness. Palate: Medium bodied, well carbonated a touch watery. Overall: A good example of what is basically wrong with this style - the astringency of dark roasted grain with aggressive hop bitterness. It is born to be out of balance.

Draft. Poured a dark brown color with a tan head. Aroma was a nice hop character, lots of citrus notes, pine, tropical fruits surrounded by nice roasted malts that balance it out. Flavor was a nice roasted malt character, with plenty of sweet notes of piney and citrus hops. Pretty tasty and quite an enjoyable brew.

Bomber from bytemesis - thanks, Mike! Potent dark brown pour with a sticky, filmy head. Some pine dankness in the nose, but overall there’s some pretty serious char going on. Tons of roasted malts and dark grains, with some pungent herbal hops lumped in for balance. Not a great example of the style, though.
