Our Cascadian Dark Ale features vibrant citrusy and floral American hops balanced against a complex malt profile of toasty dark malts with a hint of roasted barley. Just like an early morning surf session, once you start you keep going back.

Formerly Surf Patrol Black IPA.

Charred wood, cocoa, floral and tropical fruit aromas and light vegetal taste in the background from a clear dark brown/orange body with a light tan head. More cocoa in the taste along with tangy grapefruit bitterness, then a dry, charred bite. The bitterness seems to build as you go, but there’s enough juiciness and dark chocolate sweetness to keep it in check. Finishes very dry and keeps it going on the tongue long after it’s gone. Very tasty black IPA.

Sample at the taproom. The beer is a dark mahogany brown color with a medium foamy tan head that recedes gradually. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roast malt, pine and hops. Medium-bodied with flavors of citrusy hops, malt and pine. The finish is roasty malt up front with a lingering resiny hops aftertaste. Above average overall.

650ml bottle. Darkest brown colour with average, firm, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, beige head. Roasty, dark malty aroma, a touch of coffee, citrusy hoppy overtones, disguised hints of lime and grapefruit. Taste is minimally tart, dry hoppy, chlorophyllic, grassy, hints of lime, roasty dark malty basis with a touch of coffee. Flawless, but without personality.

Bottle @ weekly tasting shared by Dutchdrebus. Very dark brown color with a nice dark red glare coming through when held into the light, medium sized light brown head that lasts for a decent while. Aroma is malts, roasted malts, hops, fruit hops. Very well mixed, for me a perfect Black IPA has the roastyness of an Impy and the hoppyness of an IPA an D this beer has got it. In the aroma that is.... Taste is malts, hops, roasted malts, bitter, bitter hops, fruit hops. Very well balanced, perhaps a little bit too roasty bitter in the initial flavor instead of in the finish. But I’m gonna stop the wining, this is just a very good black IPA. Nice!

Bottle. Black with a medium head. Some hops with a slightly bitter finish. Struck me as being a cross between a dark ipa and a stout. Lovely.

Bomber @ the 9th Shrewsbury Bottle Share Oct 14, thanks to Paolo. Pours black with a foamy off-white head. Taste presents a bitter pine character with roasted malts and chocolate notes coming through. Decent.

22oz bomber, cheers Paolo: shared between four at the October 2014 Shrewsbury bottle swap. Poured a cloudy reddish amber with a brown/tan head. Roasted, toasted maltiness in the nose with a fruity bitterness from the hops. The taste was fruity and dry, as the aromas hinted at, with a restrained bitterness at first, the malt presence more roasty than sweet, so the beer seemed in limbo flavour wise. It however came to life mid-mouthful and the blending began to work, a pleasant Black IPA with enough going on to want another one.
