3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Looks a little funny in the glass, and has an interesting aroma that isn’t a hop smell or a malt smell. not bad, just different. Black IPA is not what I would call this. I’d call it a happy brown ale.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Great IPA on tap at Venice Alehouse, lots of dark malts mixed with those delicious piney hops, very good.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Tap at Venice Ale House thanks to DedicatedToFun! Clear cola red pour with almost nitro looking tan foam. Big complete lacing. Nose is savory with soy, grilled apple, tootsie roll, mild butter, walnut. Slightly mealy palate with decent nuttiness and wicked walnut dry bitterness. No flaws. Medium body with very high IBUs. Rich, spicy finish.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Dark red/brown pour with a hefty tan head. Aroma is heavy roasted grain and pine with hop bitterness. Taste roast with light chocolate and some bitter coffee with bitterness. Clean mouthfeel. Roast heavy but hop light. Decent.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
22oz bottle pours a dark dark brown with a foamy head. Strong hop flavors and a bit of roasted malt but not a lot of balance in the taste.

3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Aroma: Pine resin and grapefruit.
Appearance: Black with a substantial brown head.
Flavor: Acrid. burnt grain and plenty of hop bitterness.
Palate: Medium bodied, well carbonated a touch watery.
Overall: A good example of what is basically wrong with this style - the astringency of dark roasted grain with aggressive hop bitterness. It is born to be out of balance.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft. Poured a dark brown color with a tan head. Aroma was a nice hop character, lots of citrus notes, pine, tropical fruits surrounded by nice roasted malts that balance it out. Flavor was a nice roasted malt character, with plenty of sweet notes of piney and citrus hops. Pretty tasty and quite an enjoyable brew.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bomber from bytemesis - thanks, Mike! Potent dark brown pour with a sticky, filmy head. Some pine dankness in the nose, but overall there’s some pretty serious char going on. Tons of roasted malts and dark grains, with some pungent herbal hops lumped in for balance. Not a great example of the style, though.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle thanks to a trade! Pours a very dark hazy brown with a grayish brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a musty pine note with some earthy dark grains and a good amount of roasted malts. Flavor is similar with a strong roasted malt note supported by a bit of resin and pine as well as underlying dark grains.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
When this place was Frank’s Liquor it was only be on occasion would I stroll into here to check selection in hopes of just one beer I haven’t tasted it, but since the name change to Keg N Bottle, I knew I could expect quality—too bad its in the worst ghetto location of all the KegNBottles. More importantly about the beer, Poured a dark blackish brown hue that created a fat foam cap of head which will eventually retreat to a thin layer of film after a few minutes. Aroma is mild with soft notes of lightly roasted malts and some addition of hops but they have weakened due to long shelf life. This is a rather disturbing memory but somehow (spoiler alert- do not read any further in this caption because it might gross you out, but I get a whiff of cat liter in this beers aroma that is kinda foul). The flavor is almost the same yet with roasted malts that don’t do much to add to any flavor to this black IPA. The very same can be said about the hops because they too have no relevance in the flavor of this beer and have since disappeared. Okay attempt but I could have swore I brewed the very same black IPA home brewing with extract.
