Our Cascadian Dark Ale features vibrant citrusy and floral American hops balanced against a complex malt profile of toasty dark malts with a hint of roasted barley. Just like an early morning surf session, once you start you keep going back.

Formerly Surf Patrol Black IPA.

Bottle from whole foods Northridge. Aroma is citrus and pine hops with a nice strong malt roast bitterness and subtle hints of cocoa. Appearance is black with a tan head that laces nicely and linger long. Taste is bitter piney citrus hops with a nice stout malt background sweet roasty finish. palate is a bit more on the stout side than the IPA side but that’s fine w/ me. A really nice beer, great "black IPA" for end of summer beginning of fall since it stradles the line a bit more on the roasty stout side.

Transfer from BA review on 1-22-13- Served on tap in a pint glass Appearance – The beer is served a nearly pitch black colored brew with a one finger cream colored head. The head fades over a moderate amount of lime to leave a fair level of lacing on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma of the brew is heaviest of a roasted malt and semi-sweet chocolate smell. Mixed with these are some sweet caramel as well as a lighter floral and citrus hop. Taste – The taste begins with a smoother roasted malt and chocolate taste. Hints of a caramel sweetness are up front which fade more over time as flavors of a pine and citrus hop begin coming to the tongue. The citrus remains relatively light while the pine gets stronger to the end, where a earthy hop joins the flavor to leave a moderately hopped roasted flavor are linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer has a medium amount of creaminess and a slightly lower level of carbonation. It is quite nice for the moderate hop level as well as roasted flavors of the brew as it creates a very soothing feel on the tongue. Overall – A very tasty, rather moderately hopped, black IPA. It is a good blend of a black ale, with nice roasty flavor with hints of sweetness, and hop.

On tap at GABF 2012. Pours a almost black color with a medium tan head. A sweet nose of bitter chocolates and fresh hops. The flavor is really nice: pine, light bitterness, roast, char. Very smooth. Tasty.

Draft. Poured a dark brown color with a tan head. Aroma was a nice hop character, lots of citrus notes, pine, tropical fruits surrounded by nice roasted malts that balance it out. Flavor was a nice roasted malt character, with plenty of sweet notes of piney and citrus hops. Pretty tasty and quite an enjoyable brew.

Charred wood, cocoa, floral and tropical fruit aromas and light vegetal taste in the background from a clear dark brown/orange body with a light tan head. More cocoa in the taste along with tangy grapefruit bitterness, then a dry, charred bite. The bitterness seems to build as you go, but there’s enough juiciness and dark chocolate sweetness to keep it in check. Finishes very dry and keeps it going on the tongue long after it’s gone. Very tasty black IPA.

Bottle from Marketplace Alehouse and Deli, Doncaster. Clear, dark, reddy brown. Tidy, lasting, sticky, tan head. Chocolatey malt. Fusty pine. Light, ripe orange. Hint of blackcurrant. Taste is cocoa dry, with a pine bitterness. A little dark chocolate sweetness, too. Plenty of body, with a touch of booze. Finish sets off quite dry, with a lengthy bitterness turning woody. Bit dry, but very decent.
