COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In Ventura, good things come from the South in the Summer. In this case, in the form of our big Double India Pale Ale featuring Hops from Australia and New Zealand and Patagonia Caramel malt from Chile. Double dry-hopping provides aroma to a dominant hop profile of citrus and gooseberries with just enough malt backbone to support the aggressive hopping. 19°P 103 IBU 9 SRM

Bottle. Pours golden orange with a white head. Fresh piney hops, sweet caramel malts, faint fruity notes, and a nice lingering bitterness. A throwback to the malts double IPAs from 5 years ago, but well executed.

Vintage: 2013 Appearance: Rich, Translucent Copper verging on amber; Fluffy, off-white head; Fast dissipating; Good Lace; Minimal Carbonation activity. Smell: Dank; Honey; Grapefruit; Orange Rind; Caramel Malts; Taste: Light Caramel; Honey; Citrus in back; Short finish… lacks the nice lingering bitterness. Mouth-feel: Medium Carbonation; Slightly syrupy¬—honey like; medium body Overall: Really good malt-forward DIPA; Many will enjoy this beer, but it’s a little too syrupy and malty for me. The wonderful aroma is not held up by the taste

Tap @ brewery. Slightly hazy copper pour. Nice citrus, pine, and bitterness in the aroma with a relatively dry malt backbone. Taste is moderate bitterness with light citrus, pine and some bready malt intermixed with sweeter malt. Slightly coating mouthfeel. Bit rough but pretty well done.

11 Aug 2013, can. Yellow, clear, steady bubbles. Nose is pine and stale grass. Thin body and fizzy. Lemon rind, bitter grass. Meh. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Warm, roasted hop and caramel aroma. Solid copper with decent foam. Pleasant hop flavor upfront with a biscuit, caramel and herby background, Overall, pretty basic yet, high drinkability. Alcohol is well masked. I’d give this a B- rating.

Bottle from KegNBottle (NC): So surprised to see this after it was only the last bottle left and I hadn’t seen this beer on any of my previous visits—I feel sort of lucky. Anyways, this IPA poured a golden blonde almost honey colored hue with a slight appearance of chill haze. As for the head, a thick lather of shaving cream foam developed which in turn created a trace of lacing all down the glass. Fragrant aromas of citrus and minor notes of spice balanced out heavenly with a bready malt profile that is enough to please my nose and remind me that this was an IPA that came from the west coast. The drink is subtle yet is backed with the very same evenness that I described in the aroma but has more chewy malts that my nose lead me to believe. Certainly a standard IPA for so cal but by no means a memorable IIPA.

22oz bomber via trade. Poured a slightly hazed deep burnt orange with a smaller to average sized creamy light beige head. Aroma started off with apricot and tropical fruits that fade to a more dried out citrus rind, grapefruit and lemon, along with dry toast. Medium to fuller mouthfeel that has light to average carbonation and finishes dry with only an a stage bitterness for the big ABV. Flavor of yellow grapefruit on the end, super hoppy like chewing on a hop cone, dry toast and grains. Solid stuff here.
