COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Sure were abrasive. We were abrasive long before we were Surly. If you visit the brewery you can still see remnants of the industrial manufacturing factory Omars parents ran for 35 years within those same 4 walls. Bandsaw blades, grinding wheels, and sanding discs came long before ales and lagers. But lets be honest, this is a lot more fun. Pale in color, this over-hopped, under-brewed Double IPA has almost twice the amount of hops & malt crammed in the can. Seasonal between March and April.

Thanks to Owen for the can. 20/11/12 canning date. Honey gold color, big, thick white head. Good sticky lacing. Candied grapefruit, candied orange, pine, resin and tropical notes in the nose. Well balanced and just a excellent nose. Grapefruit, orange peel, pine, and resin taste. Supremely fresh and just tasty. Well balanced between bitter and sweet. Long lasting candied pine finish. Sessionable 9% beast.

Can to glass. [[Canned 11/14] Pours a pale amber with a frothy white head. Aroma is citrus and tropical hops - very fresh and clean. This beer tastes AMAZING. Its like candied grapefruit and orange peel up front giving way to some tropical fruit flavors later. It is extremely crisp and clean in the finish as well. Its quite light and slick in body with a soft carbonation and bitterness [somehow mixed with sweetness?!] finally showing up late in the finish. Overall this is an incredible double IPA. Probably my favorite to date. HUGE thank you to DangerRoss for this!

Poured from a pint sized can. Huge hop character, great citrusy, pine, floral, resin. Bready, toast, malty, slight caramel. Very nice double IPA.

Very fresh can (only 2 weeks!) Pale gold pour, puffy white head. Lacing all the way down the glass. Big citrus aroma - Tangerine, Grapefruit, Juicy, Hops. Nice blast of hops up front, A Citrus fruit salad, Grapefruit, Lemon Rind, Tangerine, Bready caramel malt to balance it out. Medium body. Fantastic stuff. Wish theyd brew this year round.

Fresh abrasive from John, brewed less than 2 weeks earlier. Wafts hops several feet. Light yellow with a big head. Big IBU. Good drinkability. Orange, tangerine, fantastic IPA, great hops. Crazy.

8oz pour from a cask tapped by Omar himself minutes ago. Brilliant all around with one hell of a nose. Extra pound of hops in the cask. Dang it all. This review sucks, but the beer is epic. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a pale yellow with some visible carbonation and a good amount of head. Smell is all hops, just a great, strong smell. Palate is medium bodied with a good amount of carbonation. Taste is bitter hops almost exploding in my mouth with freshness, just a great hoppy bitter flavour. An amazing beer.

Poured from a 16 oz. can freshness dated 11/14/12 into a Surly Brewing Co. branded Darkness snifter. Thanks to Oboogie for a fresh four pack, an exceptional extra. Pours a deep gold with lush orange-tinged amber hues topped with a two finger bright white head. Good retention and quite a bit of splotchy lacing. Pineapple, mango, and a touch of spruce on the nose. Pineapple, mango, and papaya intially, joined by a bit of sweet malt, and balanced with grapefruit rind and piney bitterness. Finishes clean and dry. Fairly fully bodied, moderate carbonation, slick and smooth on the palate. Abrasive is one of my personal favorite DIPAs. Not overly sweet, complex, abundant flavor, just the right amount of hop bitterness, and a pleasantly dry finish. Truly world-class.

Well balanced very floral nose. Strong hop profile throughout. Bitterness is nicely balanced by a rich but not overpowering malt presence. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
