COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Sure we’re abrasive. We were abrasive long before we were Surly. If you visit the brewery you can still see remnants of the industrial manufacturing factory Omar’s parents ran for 35 years within those same 4 walls. Bandsaw blades, grinding wheels, and sanding discs came long before ales and lagers. But let’s be honest, this is a lot more fun. Pale in color, this over-hopped, under-brewed Double IPA has almost twice the amount of hops & malt crammed in the can. Seasonal between March and April.

pours a nice copper with a thick lacing head. the smell is one of the best i’ve ever experienced for a DIPA. Citrus, grapefruit, piney. taste is also pretty good with citrus hops with a sweet malty backbone. overall a very good DIPA. glad i tried.

16 oz can of probably the best smelling DIPA I have ever had, thanks to Dlazale....thanks Greg!! Holy shit this is the best smelling DIPA in a can ever and probably one of the best smelling DIPAs hands down. Notes of cat piss, pine, dankness, citrus rind on the end, still Wow. Palate of a syrupy body that is slightly full along with softer carbonation and zero trace of the 9% ABV. Flavor of super bitter citrus rind, yellow grapefruit, cat piss, slight pine sap. All I can say is WOW and holh shit fuck money balls I can’t believe I have three more cans of this!!!!!!! Thanks Greg!!

Poured from 16oz can into a small tasting glass, pours a clear copper with a nice white head and stick lacing, the aroma smacks you in the face with grapefruit and citrus, the flavor doesn’t disapoint either, wonderful balance between the citrus hops and malt, soooo good.

This is awesome. I love citra hops. This is like drinking a cup of citrus juice. Its sweet yet extremely hoppy. Perfectly balanced. Tons of stuff going on. This is definitley one of my new favorites. Cant wait to try more surly.

Nice. Pours copper, little head. Hops on the nose, lots of um’. Bitter, pine citrus balanced out by some sweet malt, nice. Finishes a tad sweet.

16 oz can dated 2/7/2011. AROMA: Hops! Some malt. APPEARANCE: Copper color. Aggressive pour leads to some head that slowly dissipates. TASTE: Poured from refrigerated can. Initial taste is hops! Nice and bitter with a slight malt backbone. Citrus tasting. I let this one warm up a bit. Good thing I did. As it warmed, additional tastes came out. Most notably, almost like an bitter orange taste The malt taste shined. PALATE: Pretty darn bitter. Light bodied with a bitter finish. OVERALL: Nothing new here, this is a great beer!

Holy isht. This is really something! Orange amber pour...beautiful color...smallish head and decent lacing. Huge aroma...grapefruit and flowers. Thick, chewy mouthfeel is notable even before the huge flavor kicks in. Tropical fruity malt flavors with an immensely complex hop bill. Grapefruit, floral, pine, resin...it seems to have a bit of all of it. Very malty and sweet but loads of hop bitterness and a real tart citrus finish. This is really wow’ing.

500ml can thanks to grub. Canned 12/27/10.
Appearance : Hazy amber small head. Light lacing.
Aroma : Awesome fruity notes with awesome malt and light honey. Great floral and piny notes too.
Taste : Very fruity and malty. Light floral notes. Finish is quite bitter but not very resinous. Quite fruity with light floral notes.
Overall : I know this is not so fresh anymore. Nose is still very nice. Great malt and great fruity and floral hops. The type of profile that I like. Maybe a bit weak on hops but that’s most likely because of the age. Taste is also very nice but a bit weak on the hops too. Alcohol is not so well hidden but again this is probably because of the hop’s weakness. Overall a very nice DIPA but probably only the shadow of what it can be. I’ll make sure to re-rate this.

Pours a dark orange color with thin white head. The aroma is tons citrus and tropical fruit , caramel malts and fruit. Flavor-wise, the tropical fruits come through as well as a lot of citrus rind. The caramel sweetness is very balanced by the bitter hops. Excellent IIPA.
