CaptainCougar (4608), Rockville, Maryland, USA Nov 18, 2007 On tap at the 2007 GTMW: Pours a barely transparent dark mahogany with a large frothy dark tan head. Fresh grapefruity hoppy sweet dark malty aroma has a touch of brown sugar. Body starts rich, full and caramely malty with a very nice fresh piny grapefruity hoppy balance toward a resiny bittersweet finish. Nice complexity and big hoppy character throughout. Ughsmash (2874), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Aug 13, 2007 On tap at GTMW. Poured a very deep brown with a well-retained cap of creamy beige head.. looked great! The aroma picked up lots and lots of toasty sugars.. caramel, nutty notes, bunches of chocolate, and dark fruits all packed in there and all enhanced by the booze factor. Strong again on the flavor front with the dark fruits and chocolate taking over.. very warm with the booze presence.. too many residual sugars at the finish for my liking. Heavily-bodied and grainy on the palate.. very warm finish. This was good, but I got caught up a bit by the sweetness. KingpinIPA (816), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Aug 13, 2007 GTMW on tap. Dark brownish color. Smell of malt, caramel, burnt toast, sugar, and minor spices. Taste of the same but very sweet. Very different. StewardofGondor (1934), Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Aug 12, 2007 Tap @ GTMW. Opaque and midnight brown in color with a booming, tan sponge heat that’s virtually immovable for the head. Aroma rings brightly with steel espresso tins, blackened rye, lactic cocoa and mocha chip brownies all warming in the sun. Flavor produces an incredibly rich abundance of all that is tasty and wonderful on God’s given earth. Chalky dark chocolate gets condensed so much, it’s like a rate of one chocolate pound per ounce. Full bodied and chewy at all edges, with even a thick hint of grit at times. So smooth and seductive. The very essence of decadent chocolates and dark chocolate truffles is interlaced with caramel goop and Godiva liquor. Sensational fluid takes a mighty heft of the tongue to even raise it a centimeter for the palate to fully have at it. Quite possibly the biggest mouth load I’ve encountered, and my personal favorite of GTMW 2007. 1FastSTi (2364), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA Aug 12, 2007 GTMW 2007. The beer pours to a dark brown/black body with a large thick brown head. The aroma is dark breads and toasted caramel malts. White wine, herbs, and toffee with some maple syrup. Very interesting aroma. The flavor is molasses and toasted pale/brown malts with maple syrup. The palate is slightly tart and lightly acidic with a medium-full body and creamy texture. Slight astringency.
