Can. I’ve had this more times than I can remember, and I finally get around to rating today! Dark brown pour, a little carbonation and a roasty caramel aroma. Flavor is malt, caramel and some chocolate on finish. Solid beer, but I like the coffee version better.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20 vikingguy (456) - Chaska, Minnesota, USA - MAY 19, 2009
Pours very dark brown with a long lasting foamy tan head. Strong aroma of dark malt, hops, vanilla and a little nuttiness. After the first sip, the first thing that I notice is the outstanding creaminess. Extremely smooth texture which makes it very drinkable. Taste is awesome...nutty, creamy, hint of coffee & chocolate and balanced with the perfect amount of hops. Texture of this is what set’s it apart most. Best brown ale I’ve ever tasted!

16oz can via trade at DLD poured into a tulip. pours a dark, chestnut brown with a thick, fluffy vanilla head and great lacing. aroma is very nice with fresh, roasted pistachios, coffee, malted chocolate, and a hint of sugary, citrus hops. flavor was delicious and hoppy up front with notes of citrus, grass, and earth with big roasted, nutty malts following with hints of cinnamon and coffee. mouthfeel was medium bodied, very drinkable if not a bit thin, with solid carbonation. overall, a very solid brown ale.
4.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 20/20 Alopex (54) - Crystal, Minnesota, USA - MAY 6, 2009
Can into a pint glass. Wonderful dark brown, almost to the point of being black. I can smell coffee, vanilla, and a toffee like my mom used to make. Malty carmel goodness in a glass.

Dark brown color pour with a foamy head. Roasted malt, toasty nuts, and a bit of coffee and caramel in the aroma and flavor. Pretty tasty for a brown ale, actually. A touch of hoppiness on the finish. Very good session brew!

Can, courtesy of juiceisloose. Pours brown with a slight off-white head that quickly dissipates to the edges. Caramel, toasted nuts, a touch grainy. Medium mouthfeel with a balanced carbonation, finish with a pleasant caramel aftertaste.

Pours a dark brown color with a small off whoite head that quickly dissipates to a thin film. The aroma shows toasted caramel, chocolate, roasted malts, and nuts. The flavor is malt forward with the chocolate and caramel showing strong with the roast and some earthy hop bitterness on the backend. Medium bodied and goes down very smooth with good carbonation and a lingering roasted nut finish. Tried side by side with the Cigar City Maduro, but hard to compare when this can was a few months old. Still a solid brown ale.
