Can: Thanks ygtbsm94! Pours a deep brown with an amber hue and a dense khaki head. Definitely cocoa notes in the aroma- Belgian malt character of toffee, very light saaz hops, hearty oat notes, sweet nutty suggestions, mild maple- quite complex in the nose. Fluffy body. The flavor has some light raisin upfront and some Belgian malt notes of brown suagr- the oats are hard to detect. There’s some mild toffee as well, coconut notes are there- then comes drier flavors of unsweetened cocoa, nutty British malts and a subtle noble hop bitterness in the finish. A very nice Brown Ale with well integrated flavors and substantial body as well as sessionability.

Eh, poured dark with quarter inch of tan head. Lots of lacing left on pint glass as you drink it. Aroma is malt and peanuts. Taste is sharp and crisp, leaving a dry after taste. Taste characters are sugar, smoke, and dry dark fruit. Not the best. Just decent

Very dark, almost to the point that it should be called a porter. Dark, smokey tones dominate the flavor and aroma. Color is bloody red, almost black.

Can courtesy of cas. Pours a dark brown cola color with reddish highlights and a tone finger tan head that settles quickly. Aroma is roasted and malty with notes of chocolate, toffee, caramel, malt, brown sugar and hints of molasses and coffee. Flavor is also roasted and malty with notes of brown sugar, molasses, chocolate, coffee, ripe dark fruit and hints of nuts. Generally medium body with a pleasing roasted malt finish.

Canned thanks to a trade. Brown brew with a big fluffy and creamy tan head. Smells of roast malt, some coffee or toffee smells as well. Tasty beer, even if my better half said "I thought you didn’t drink beer from cans."
Probably one of the best browns I’ve had to date. Darn glad I have a few extra for camping season.

Pint served at Poor Phil’s in Oak Park, IL. Brown pour with a little ruby tint through the glass. Showed a tan, foamy head, with some nice, bubbly lacing. The nose was roasted malt, with ground coffee and cocoa, nutty and earthy tones and a little toffee. The flavor added to these some malt sweetness and a nice, medium hop bitterness to balance. Nice, flavorful Brown. To be expected from Surly.

Canned. Much more complex and flavourful brown than is typical. Dark brown pour with a medium offwhite head than dissolves into a ring with a little lacing. Aroma of roasted caramel malt. Flavour has some coffee, hops, chocolate and a quick finish. Easy drinking.

The aroma is wonderful, raisin, fig, hint of licorice and molasses. The color is dark brown with a touch of red when held to the light. The head is of white, mostly diminishing with good lacing. The initial flavor is bitter a little watery, then you flavor of raisin, roasted coffee, pretty good.
