COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Get Surly! Here’s what happens when substance meets smooth. This oatmeal brown ale defies traditional categories. Bender begins crisp and lightly hoppy, complemented by the velvety sleekness oats deliver. Belgian and British malts usher in cascades of cocoa, coffee, caramel, and hints of vanilla and cream. An easy-drinking ale with many layers of satisfaction.

Thank you, Ron. This has been on my want list for awhile and what luck. Pours a light brown with a thin white head. Hints of sweet malt and bead. Taste is sweet with nuts, slight mocha and chocolate late. Smooth finish.

Clearish dark chestnut ale covered by a light tan head. Plummy, fruity, raisiny flavours that remind of a good old muffin. Very bready maltiness, developing chocolate flavours. Medium bodied, soft carbonation. Simple earthy hop finish. An interesting brown ale, smooth, round, but whose extreme popularity leave me a bit puzzled.

Can courtesy of fly. Body-ultra dark brown body with a lasting beige foamy thick head. Nose-raisin and rich. Taste-fig, big raisin, dark rich fruit, mysterious, oriental, light soy, light unami, caramel, scorched malts, light char/burnt, barley, oatmeal raisin cookies, very rich without being too sweet, very light chocolate powder, very light acid that works quite well. The fig/raisin dominates almost in a Belgian strong kind of way, and works very well. Damn solid brown ale that almost crosses the border into an American Strong Ale. Very nice.

Special thanks to my buddy Craig in Mn. Pours a deep, deep brown with a fluffy oatmeal colored head. Nose is malty and caramel. Flavor is incredibly smooth, with caramel and chocolate influences, with a wonderful creamy mouthfeel. Very subtle bitterness wraps up this beautiful brown. Very nice.

Nice hop aroma found in the same “location” as in the Darkness; if it were a 3D object the hops in the aroma would where the engines are in the Star Trek Voyager if you flipped it upside-down, with the bulk of the ship being the malt & everything else. Subtle notes of vanilla & chocolate. Flavor composition is like the Darkness as well in that each flavor comes at you separately, rather than as one mixed substance; works very well in these instances. Mouthfeel is very smooth with just the right amount of body. Great finish.

Pours a dark brown with a thin tan head. Sweet malty aroma, very sweet, caramel, chocolate, twangy, a bit earthy, . The flavor is really smooth and layered. No carbonation. Chocolate, caramel, coffee, earthy, definitely shows the English malt.

dark brown, nice large beige head. Aroma is sweet and hoppy, with a nice maltiness. Flavour is hoppy, but very subtle, with a nice caramel. Wow, this is a great session beer, crisp, and flavourful, i could drink this all night!
