3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 beerbill (2850) - Laurel, New York, USA - JAN 11, 2008
16 oz. can courtesy of my Secret Santa. Pours an opaque brown with a dense, almost creamy, tan head that lasted until the end. Very pleasant aroma with coffee, chocolate, lightly roasted malt, and a whiff of pine all noted. The coffee and chocolate are less noticeable in the flavor and the malt is more dominant. There is also a tobacco flavor that emerges as the beer warms a bit. Moderate hops bitterness at the finish. Medium bodied. Well done.

Thanks to hellomynameis for this beauty.
It pours dark reddish brown with a frothy yellow head. The flavor has inklings of cocoa powder, nuts and a touch of coffee. It’s very tasty.

Pours a dark brown with a thin tan head. Sweet malty aroma, very sweet, caramel, chocolate, twangy, a bit earthy, . The flavor is really smooth and layered. No carbonation. Chocolate, caramel, coffee, earthy, definitely shows the English malt.

From the can. Pours dark brown, red hues at the edges with a smooth khaki head. Roasty chocolate nose. Flavor pulls a lot of bitter chocolate in, soft coffee note in the finish. Smooth with a long lingering bitter finish.

Sampled at an STL beer gathering. Pours mahogany with a crimson hue and a tannish head. The aroma has roasted nutty malt, light butter and some sweetness. Medium smooth body with smoothness and a bit of grassiness and small frothy carbonation. The flavor starts with roasted nuttiness and lots of hops for the style - very smooth enjoyable flavors. The finish has more sharpness, more hops and then lingering mild coffee. Thumbs up for this choice brown ale.

sampled from the can at DLD - Pours dark brown with a thin white head. the aroma is mainly of caramel malt. The flavor isn’t quite what I’d expect from the style. The caramel malt is in there but it’s fairly light. There’s also ample hops with some citrus notes and maybe some chocolate. the palate is rather lighter than I expected. It’s certainly an unusual brew for the style though I’m not sure it works for me as well as it does for many people.

Thanks to chewy08rx for sending me this can.
The beer pours a sightly hazy brown color with a tan head. The aroma is a mix of chocolate, caramel caramel and some toasted/lightly roasted malt. The flavor is more of the same. I get a lot of chocolate as well as some roasted malt and some light grassy hops. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. A very nice American Brown Ale and one I wish I had regular access to.
