UPDATED: NOV 16, 2007 Tap @ Map Room in Chicago. I had it after the Surly Darkness, so my tasting might be a little off. A very flavorful Brown, more complex flavors than the average brown ale. I enjoyed it a lot. One of the better browns I have had.

Special thanks to my buddy Craig in Mn. Pours a deep, deep brown with a fluffy oatmeal colored head. Nose is malty and caramel. Flavor is incredibly smooth, with caramel and chocolate influences, with a wonderful creamy mouthfeel. Very subtle bitterness wraps up this beautiful brown. Very nice.

Canned sample via oakbluff. Ruby brown in colour with moderate carbonation. Aromas of dark toffee, roasted nuts, a bit of green hops, and light milk chocolate. Caramel and toffee notes upfront in the mouth, before some interesting bitter dark chocolate and earth elements clean things up. A bit of an oat flavor too. The mothfeel is quite interesting too, smooth to start before some astringent roast and hop bitterness finish things off. Very good for a not-so-favorite style for me.

Pours a great looking deep chestnut brown with a sturdy khaki head. Nutty and light spice malt notes on the nose with a bit of hops. Nice creamy palate. Slightly sweet nutty taste with a twinge of hops in the middle, yielding to a mellow malt finish. A great brown ale and a real nice-looking beer.

From a growler shared by El Poundo, aroma was chocolate cake batter, with hints of caramel and cola soda, taste was cocoa, bottom of the cup coffee, some kind of wood, finishing with a bitterness that may or may not have been hop,the bitterness and carbonation gave it a sharpness, definitely did not experience a smoothness of the oatmeal. Very tastey, enjoyable,if the can is this good ,its a must try

16 oz. can - thanks to tytoanderso for the trade; thin, light cola brown with foamy tan head; a little sweet with mild astringency; nutty with touch of chocolate on the nose; not that interesting overall; the coffee addition does wonders to this base

Can, thanks to tytoanderso. Aroma of fig, raisin, raspberry, caramel, subtle earthy hops, subtle coffee, generally malty and toasty actually with sweet fruit notes. Flavor has some very bitter chocolate and almost salty nuts, sort of different in subtleties from the aroma, but still very overall malty and mildly sticky as predicted by the malty fruitiness. Bitter, toasted toffee finish. Medium bodied and very drinkable. Tasty brown.

UPDATED: MAY 2, 2008 1 pint can from a trade with mcbackus. pours very dark brown with a red hue around the edges. pours with a mid sized tan head that stays with you. not much in the way of aromas. vanilla, chocolate and toffee if you really put some effort into it but the aromas dont jump out of the glass. flavours are very nice with chocolate and toffee for sweetness and a splash of hop bitterness. not dazzalingly complex but there is a lot going on here. the best brown ale ive had.
