COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Get Surly! Here’s what happens when substance meets smooth. This oatmeal brown ale defies traditional categories. Bender begins crisp and lightly hoppy, complemented by the velvety sleekness oats deliver. Belgian and British malts usher in cascades of cocoa, coffee, caramel, and hints of vanilla and cream. An easy-drinking ale with many layers of satisfaction.

On tap at Winterfest.Very cloudy brew with moderate carbonation.Lots of brown sugar and something like a fruity doughball that sat up uncovered in a barn for a week or two, like they were trying to cross this with a gueuze. Not bad for there first offering.

Very dark brown, clear, tan head, ok retention big lacing... decently roasty aroma, with notes of coffee and light chocolate... Slick body, medium to almost medium thin, oily, roast finish, nice big cocoa and coffee flavor, the lack of carbonation is great for the body, the creaminess from the oats plays nicely... very very good brown ale... very quaffable, nice oatmeal brown ale...

Thanks David for sharing this one, pours deep red with a thick tan head, aroma of grapefruit, pine, lemon, wine and yeast, flavor is mainly bitter, low sweetness, grapefruit peel, medicinic bitterness, complexity is low and does not support the level of bitterness.

Shared by Butters at DLD. Caramel malt aroma. Dark brown body with light head. Medium palate. Medium malt presence with some hints of caramel, and a bit of a bitter finish.

I think I had this at Kuma’s. Anyway, very good beer. However it took me a few sips to get what it was all about. It starts kind of all over the place but then as your mouth gets used it, it really works. Serving: Tap

Thanks to JuiceIsLoose for the taste of Bender. We did a side-by-side with the Cigar City Maduro Brown. Just check the rates to see who won. Freshness could have been a factor, though. Aroma is nutty and slightly roasted. Not nearly as strong as I would want. Flavors and dry toast and oats. Pretty good.

Enjoyed at NoogFest III. A dark walnut pour that is very clear. Malt aroma with molasses. Nice brown ale. Good toasted and nutty grain with minimal hops that are complimentary to the hints of sweetness that remind me of bread and molasses. Body is creamy (perhaps the oatmeal) and full. Good.
