Pours deep brown/black with a very thick, creamy tan head...great retention and lacing. Aroma has light roasty chocolate, nuttiness, and vanilla. Flavor is nutty and roastiness...subtle cocoa and caramel..also some earthy, spicy hops. Mouthfeel is creamy but not too heavy...finish is roasty with some lingering coffee flavor.

UPDATED: JUL 27, 2008 Can thanks to tytoanderso. Pours a deep brown color with ruby highlights in the light and a beige head that receded to a ring. Nice malty aroma with some hints of caramel, chocolate, and a nice oat and nuttiness. Definitely one of the better brown aroma’s I have encountered. Nice, chocolaty malt entry gives way to sweet, caramel flavor with nice oat and even coffee undertones. Pretty creamy body for 5%, and thoroughly enjoyable. Thanks Tyler, I liked it a lot.

Can. Pours amber brown with decent beige head, plenty of lacing. Aroma of citrus hops, caramel, chocolate, faint fruit. Taste is similar with lots of hops and smooth malt character. Finish is hoppy bitter. Mouth is a little carbonated, full-bodied, and satisfying. Overall, a solid brew.

Can. Sweet nose with coffee, chocolate, and toffee. Reddish brown with dark brown head. Quite thin with lots of caramel sweetness and a touch of chocolate. Opens thin but finishes very smooth and thickens out a touch towards the end. Very nice for the style.

Thanks to zrrbrrt for opening this...
Appears a slighty hazy(though still transparent), dark brown with a mild red hue. A rocky, tan head slowly quickly fades out and leaves scattered spots of lacing around the glass.
The smell is yeasty, toasty nuts, fruits, grassy, light caramel, brown sugar, cocoa, and a touch of clove like spiciness.
The taste is of the mentioned aromas with perhaps a touch of mild sourness picked up, along with an astringency that is noticeable.
The mouthfeel is medium bodied, mildly roasty, with cocoa hanging on the palate leading to a gentle bitterness.
Overall, I’m not really sure what the hype is about. I thought it was good but it didn’t really knock my socks off in any way. Maybe I’m just not a huge Brown Ale fan?

Poured from a 16oz can supplied by tytoanderso and served in an English pint glass. This brew poured a deep, dark mahogany color with a frothy tan head that quickly faded down to a thin layer of lasting bubbles. Just a touch of faint lace was left around the glass. The aroma of the beer was mildly roasty and made up of milk chocolate, caramel, and also some light vanilla notes. The flavor included oats, caramel, cocoa, and lightly roasted malts. Also a hint of chocolate, finishing up lightly bitter. The mouthfeel was medium-bodied and creamy with a nice dose of tingly carbonation. An excellent beer with a wonderfully balanced flavor. This beer brings some excitement to a style that tends to be a bit mundane. Well done!
