UPDATED: JUN 5, 2007 Can for theisti. Pours a dark red color more than a brown. Lasting tan head. Aromas of English Toffee, cherry juice. chocoalte and roasted malts. Well blended hop flavor with a nice bitter finish. Rich palate make this a robust beer, but I’d drink this at any time. Thanks Tim.

Re-rate from another can. I was getting enough different out of this second time around for this beer so I figured I better re-rate. Pours a deep brown with chestnut notes and a smaller bubbly/creamy lighter tan head that left some spotty lacing. Aroma of chocolate, lightly roasted malt, nuts, citrus notes from teh fresh American hops, cocoa and light coffee. Flavor of the same lightly roasty, chocolate, nutty, some coffee and yes...lots of hops!

A very smooth, flavorful dark beer. Pours nice out of the can with a kaki colored head. Great for drinking at a BBQ. Another great Minnesota beer!

16 oz can, via joebrew. Pours a clear brown colored body under a smallish brown fizzy head that faded to a patchy film. Some sticky lacing remained. Aroma is nutty and lightly roasted malts with a nice balancing hoppiness. Some chocolate, light alcohol, a little fruitiness, and a touch of vanilla. Very nice substantial flavor for a usually boring style. Lots of nutty grainy malt with a slightly roasty accent up front. Moderately dry finish with a nice lightly bitter finish. Mouthfeel is light-medium bodied, fairly dry with moderate soft fizzy carbonation. Almost creamy in texture. A damn fine Brown Ale. Never thin or watery and had enough hops to make itself stand out among the crowd. This is my highest rated Brown Ale, and it deserves it.

One of the best Brown Ales I’ve had! Full of roasty chocolate malty flavors. Pours clear brown with minimal white head. Goes down smooth, with sweetness, wood, smoke and chocolate all in the flavors. Pretty clean and yet sweet and, well, brown!

16oz can, courtesy of Schutzenliesel. Thanks, Tom! Pours a dark mahogany color; light tan head with good retention and lacing. Generous, dried fruit and candy sugar aroma; red fruits and tea-like malts. Medium-to-full, malt-dominated mouthfeel: surprising amounts of milk chocolate and roasted malts (almost like a light porter); medium-to-lively carbonation; dense, layered maltiness with a hint of sharp citrus hops; beautifully done. Lengthy, caramel and chocolate finish. Probably the best brown ale I’ve had.
